Unreal story?

I liked the film but it wasnt the best acting and was an unreal story. Sometimes I couldnt decide if the acting was really bad or really good?

I just didnt think it was real that in the future they all met back up with each other even though some lived in USA and some in Ireland and they all still lived in the same houses or street.

And I dont beleive that Jimmy's Gran would remember Jack after all those years!

The only person who we know lived in some house was Ethel Ann as we never saw where any of the Irish characters lived in their earlier lives. They did all seem to stay in the same area of Belfast but I don't think that is unbelievable.

I recently ran into a boyfriend from 30 years back and I recognised and remembered him. I probably would remember him 20 years from now.

Also they only people who actually met up again were Jim's Gran and Jack.

I thought it was believable, its a small world and this film proves that, coz im sure things similar to this crop up from time to time

Thank you Nbickerstaff!! It was based indeed, ON A TRUE EVENT!! Yes the crash happened, yes, the ring was lost, yes the ring was found in Belfast, and yes, it WAS returned to the widow!!! Hey ho - stranger things happen!!!

reply

yeah maybe so but would Jimmy's Gran remember Jack after all those years? doubt it and dont think that was true.

reply

Why should you care? It's perfectly possible that she remembered him, but it's a film for goodness sake, not the second coming.

reply

Well, if I were them, and had paid money to watch the wretched film, this would be one of the many reasons for regretting paying.

reply

why shouldn't she remember Jack?

Even if you were a tart during the war, I would think you'd still remember a guy who asks you to marry him, especially if he lived in a place called Branagan and was from the US and you were from Ireland - I think they saw each other more than one night.

Also, think of the scene where Jim's gran reminisces about the war and both Ethel and Jim realise she's talking about Jack -- just because they didnt show it in the movie doesnt mean it didnt happen, maybe Jim (or Ethel) showed her a few pictures of Jack in his current form, thus making it easier for her to recognise him when he came to Belfast.

I dont know. I liked the film, I guess I would have wanted to have more scenes with Christopher Plummer in them and less of the 1940s scenes, but that's my only complain and personal preference.

You can't really expect everything in moives are reliable can you/// They're moives. Well I think if it made you cry or laugh or maybe even just for one second fell for the storyline. Then should be it. Besides "World War two" we are not even been there before, What the hell was it like no one knows. But the promisors part was really remarkable!
