**Spoilers** ending of first part

I was not aware this 3 part series was a book adaptation. I may pick up the book after I finish watching this.

At any rate, I just finished the first part on TNT, and found the ending to be intriguing. The KGB General was talking to Khrushchev about a bigger ploy involving the CIA and how it would be fulfilled when both men were in the ground, and how their children would benefit from the KGB's successful plot.

That got me thinking. I remember reading about a KGB defector in the early 60s, which just about falls in line with this series, and how the Soviets had a plan to make it look like the USSR falls, but in reality they would be lulling the West into a false sense of security.
