First, it would be extremely unlikely a young, single, Jewish, women in 1950's Moscow would own a telephone, but would it have been possible to make a person to person LD call from the US to Moscow at that time? I doubt it.

Thank you for raising this.. I was so struck by this that I thought I had misunderstood something, or missed a bit such as when/how she got out of the Soviet union.
But I haven't quite finished yet, so I'm still pondering if it shows she was put up to/allowed to make the call by the KGB
