i just saw this and...

i just watched this movie and its pretty bad. i dont understand why stuff like this is made. the only thing that i can say was good is this: compared with all the other movies from Puerto Rico that have been released this past year in theaters, i would say this one has the best cinematography. it looked much better that the other films from PR that ive seen this past year. Does anyone know if the DoP s from Puerto Rico? it seems to me that this movie was made just for Roselyn, to try and showcase her acting skills, its all about her, i guess thats why she produced it. not only was she mediocre, but the story and script is nothing to get exited about.

Wow. I went to the Puerto Rican premiere yesterday and you could not be more wrong. It was a good, sorta artsy inspiring movie.

I waited some time for this movie's release & I have to say I was extremely dissapointed. I'm not a Roselyn Sanchez fan but still, being puertorrican & the movie being from Sony Pictures my expectations were high. This movie's biggest failure is its script. The sequence of events don't make sense and there are a lot of untied knots but since the plot is kinda stupid you get to the point were you just wish the movie ends. You don't care for the characters no matter how unfortunate is their situation. You don't give a damn about her alcoholic mother, her epyleptic landlord or her father's fallen career frustration. The scenery was great and I'm just not saying this because most of it is in Puerto Rico. D.B. Sweeney's character was a total failure as well. After seeing deliver a funny and jockey perfomance on "The Cutting Edge" you are aggravated by the emptiness of his character or should I say shadow. The music sounded terrible specially what I guess was the score. Sounded like a cheap keyboard played by an amateur. I applaud the effort of this film because I know it's not easy making a film, but a good script should have been the start of this idea that doesn't work as a drama or a feel good dance movie such as "All that Jazz". In fact, it actually ruined my perception of the yellowish and will see it again just to give myself shots to be drunk in the first 15 minutes because of the excess amount of yellow items shown trying to prove an idea that the name & poster art obviously establish.

I liked it!!!! it could have been better??? yes!

Thypaint I couldnt agree with you more . This movie is a disgrace and promotes the negative stereotypes about Puerto Rico. It had no original story, the dialgogue was terrible, and the performances left a lot to be desired . The woman who portrayed the mother, Sully Diaz is a wonderful dramatic actress and this was a waste of her talent. All the drugs, swearing and sex scenes were just plain distasteful. I am puertorrican and I feel ashamed this movie will be seen by audiences as an example of Puertorrican cinema. There is a great artist here called Jacobo Morales who makes indie eccentric films that are really amazing. Just a recommendation to anyone who wants to learn about the real talent we have here in PR.

I saw it yesterday and the truth is that is one of the worst movies i've ever seen!!..the acting and the script were terrible!!..BAD!!BAD!!BAD!!!.

reply

Everyone can have a different opinion but it is unreal to say that the performances were bad. Roselyn did an excellent work, amazing! As an actress and as a dancer. Of course this movie wont be nominated for an Oscar, but it's a good movie. The problem is that as PuertoRican we always think that what comes from Hollywood it's the best, and then we talk abaout how proud we are of our island. Come on!
Roselyn I'm really proud of your effort. Keep working hard you're gonna make it big some day.

I strongly disagee. She is a terrible actress.

I respect her because she has come a long way. I agree that her dancing is very impresive, but I also think she needs to work on her acting and i'm sorry but the script for "Yellow" is terrible!!

This movie is not bad. It is clumsy, yes. But it is what it is, a dance film. Like DIRTY DANCING had the most beautiful script in the 80's? Give me a break! "Nobody puts baby in the corner!" Bravo, Shakespearian! Everyone now is a writer! It's not as bad as LAMBADA THE FORBIDDEN DANCE and it's not as good as CHICAGO but it's something in between.

Roselyn was not bad. She did a decent job with the material. I really liked Bill Duke as the crazy neighbor. Their relationship is what's best of the film. Their interactions were natural and the part when Mr. Duke opens up to Roselyn his hidden pain was very moving.

It had some logic problems, sure. She just crashes into someone else's apartment? No one questions her? Who pays the bills? Where is the landlord? You just invade a unit? Well, it's forgivable I guess.

At first I thought "Why is this beautiful girl delivering pizzas and living in horrid conditions?" But then I thought that there are many people that come from homes like that. Broken families, girls that don't want or can't afford to go to college. A lot of tv models come from places like the one in the film. Is TAINA from Garden Hills? No. She's from the projects.

It was not outrageous to see her landing a job as a stripper neither. When the money comes stripping while there's no money to be made dancing legit, you're gonna be stripping too!

The DB Sweeney character was just underdeveloped. There are a lot of proffesionals that fall in love with these women, is not an impossible situation. The relationship had not bad but clunky, clumsy dialogue. There were plenty of chances to write a little more convincing dialogue. Maybe if he met her any other place, but he was neccesary to create tension and you got to have a love interest, right? Or people are gonna go "Is she gay?" You can't have it both ways. Is Amarilis gonna go off to Australia to live and dash her dreams of real dancing or is she gonna go for it to see if she is as good as she think she is. Now, I'm thinking the doctor part was uneccesary. There was plenty of drama in her life to make the final auditions tense and the outcome a satisfiying one.

A for effort
C+ for the film

Just watched the movie on DVD. Bill Duke did an amazing job. Totally against the way he is usually cast. Roselyn did very well. Most of the the acting was impressive with the exception of DB Sweeney. He was bland and boring. The movie itself falls into the usual dull drama stuff. Too many montages and not enough story

reply

I don't know her acting skills in other films, but in this one she was terrible. So stiff, unnatural.. It was very very bad... This film was illogical and ridiculous.

I "tried" watching it but could not. I forwarded it and, well, I guess that's the best way of watching it. I think it was completely unoriginal (Flashdance anyone? - and countless others), and like someone said, it was really sad to watch Sully Diaz in it. I have to agree with another comment which recommends Jacobo's films. Those are works of art. If you decide to watch Yellow and have suicidal tendencies, remove all sharp objects from sight.

best cinematography?? if that's the case, I don't know if I can handle watching the other Puerto Rican films.. that seen when the doctor and Sanchez were talking in the bar, (right after he patched her up) I thought I was gonna throw up.. all the close ups, and shaky camera work.. I don't recommend this to anyone who suffers from vertigo.. I was getting dizzy watching it.

it's a nice story about a dancer.. it should be saved as a nice story and not be turned into a bad movie.

Pardon the punn but the plot was Horriable. I felt like I was watching an SNL skit. Roselyn was drop dead gorgous though. Stunning at the end.

Roselyn Sanchez, decent camera work, and good dance photography, along with some fine dancing, made the difference for me, and that made up for a muddy story and D.B. Sweeney's character.

I know this is cliche...but I really think Roselyn is beautiful. Is she naked? Or in very revealing clothes?

reply

She does a few nude scenes and a dance number wearing body paint, which is quite hot. And there's nothing cliche about thinking someone beautiful.
