It's weird, but I find it strangely transfixing.
I like this movie. I rented it over the summer because I spotted Sevigny, Malone, and Sobieski on the front cover; I had no choice but to get it. I expected it to be odd, as I'd never heard of it before and the cover and synopsis and all was pretty obscure, but I enjoyed it.
A lot of people seem to HATE it, but there's something strangely beautiful about it - the images of all the women frolicking around the countryside and inside the grandeur house are transfixing; the film really oozes atmosphere, and evokes a sense of... something. I'm not even sure I can describe it; it's inviting at times, and at others unsettling and just off-balance. The awkwardness between the characters is well demonstrated, too.
There's really no plot to speak of, but it's pretty good as far as experimental movies go. I think the problem is that the people who end up seeing it may not be adjusted to these kinds of experimental movies, so they have a hard time enjoying it. It's definitely not for all tastes, but once you can kind of get in its "groove", it is a weirdly intriguing piece of film. A good kind of "background movie", that you can leave playing while doing housework, or during a party or something - kind of like Warhol's "Chelsea Girls", in that sense. You don't have to pay a whole lot of attention to what's going on - it's more about taking in the images and wallowing in the atmosphere.
