Whoa, somebody replied.

Serious?

Comparing this to the MMA world today is pretty interesting. It's almost as if not many people knew what they were doing (except Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock). Also I find Kathy Long to be hilarious to listen to. Ugh etc...

Things that I find amazing are strategies that will never be allowed by today's standards. Rib/head stomps (actually is that still allowed?) and other such things.

Leg lock? Break the toes! I was yelling at the screen...ugh

Yah I watched this the other day for the second time ever since I was like 10. Its funny how the commentators don't seem to really know what the hell is going on, how everything seemed totally unorganized, and how sloppy the refs were at stopping fights during tapouts. Interesting how much they came along since then.

Well.. They really didn't know what they were doing. It's no joke. Not only fighters, but the majority of people everywhere had no clue that grappling skills were needed to make a fighter. 20 years ago everyone was sure that karate, kickboxing and kung fu were the most lethal martial arts. A result of too much TV and movie propaganda.

I think the general public just didn't understand how fast a trained grappler can execute a take-down manuever.

Of course, wrestlers, Jiu-Jitsu and Judo practitioners knew how easy it was to control someone completely when they were facing someone untrained in grappling or submission. It's just that no one else (in the western world, anyway) seemed to know. As I understand it, breaking that hollywood myth was part of the reason they put together UFC in the first place.
