I love when people boil a crap movie down to it being too "challenging" for some audiences.
The truth hurts, doesn't it? Hate to break it to you, but America has some of the most dumbed-down, illiterate people in the world living there and I know because I live among them. And Hollywood knows this too, dumbing-down their films accordingly, pretty much never creating any challenging films.
This movie just wasn't good. I was just put out there and you're supposed to accept everything with absolutely no explanation. The only thing that's challenging is that fact that the movie seems incomplete, as has been said.
What you mean to say is that the movie wasn't entertaining to you. However, for those who watch films for reasons other than to be merely entertained, it was a very well-done film by a director with some of the best films ever on his resume (City of Lost Children, Delicatessen). Not to mention the underrated Alien Resurrection film (the Special Edition being the better version, in my opinion)...
