Too derivative?

Ok, I like Matt Walsh and his work on UCB. I like A.D. Miles and the work I’ve seen him in. I also think Zach Galifianakis is a very funny standup. The woman I don’t really know, but she’s pretty enough and seems able to play well with the others. The pilot episode even made me laugh a few times.

That said, this type of format or style (mockumentary/verite) seems a little tired at this point. We have/had The Office, Reno 911, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, The Comeback, every Christopher Guest movie and now Man Bites Dog (what else am I missing?). Does anyone else think that the abundance of shows in this form marks a potential peak almost like there was with crappy sitcoms (which ironically helped pave the road for reality tv)/reality shows? If so, what do you think might be the next style coming down the road? I think maybe a more cinematic feel a la Twin Peaks or Desperate Housewives, but with more of a comedic slant. I don’t know if you could really make that work though since that type of style lends itself to a more dramatic atmosphere.
