Charlie and Lola - STUCK IN THE PAST?

Charlie and Lola is a cartoon stuck in a time warp.

Both their characters fit typical male and female stereotypes and i just feel that modern cartoons should break away from these traditional stereotypes...

Has anyone got any examples of cartoons which break away from this?

reply

Yes, because in real life I know absolutely no little girls that love to dress up and like pink things, especially strawberry milkshakes, and no boys who like to play football in the park and walk their friend's dog...come on, children DO act like typical stereotypes in real life because if a little boy started dressing up and saying he liked pink milk etc. parents would probably try to stop him. Parents buy girls dolls and dresses and girly things because they think that's what they like, and they buy boys footballs and toy cars for the same reason. Even before they are born, parents will often paint the nursery blue if they know it's going to be a boy and pink if they know it's going to be a girl.
And there is a reason they fit the stereotypes...because stereotypes imply that MOST children fall roughly into the description. So surely by making them stereotypes they are going to connect with the largest audience possible?

The truth is out there.

A lot of cartoons however use the element of stereotypes. I can't think of any cartoon series that are different.
