Is it Just Me..(concert scene).

Is it just me, or does anyone else not understand what the big deal was? So someone came into the room when you were playing...so what? If you are a concert musician you are going to have to deal with a lot more than that from time ot time. What a silly spoiled brat she was, and how petty for making everyone miserable just because she had to deal with the world not revolving around her for a half a minute. I think the exam problem should have been a lot bigger to justify Melanie's actions.
I do love french films for their subtlety, but this was just a bit much...

Remember, we are talking about a grudge of a child. I think children remember such things harder than adults.

Melanie loved music and wanted to be a pianist, but it must have been difficult for her parents to pay for expensive lessons. I think Melanie's problem is that she must have been very disappointed with how her life turned out. For many a law degree and a good internship would be a dream, but she cleraly did not enjoy it at all. She is always sad and melancholic (even her talks with her parents are strangely impersonal and brief), and she does not seem to have any friends.
With such a personality she might be OK as an artist (artists are often excusedfor being excentric), but in a 'real' world she probably did not quite fit. And that is the real tragedy, that for every day of her life she thought what would have become of her IF she passed that exam many years ago. And that she deserved to pass it.

The other thing it, whether it was moral of her to pursue her revenge. Come to think of it, how many mistakes like that occurr in every person's lives, imagine everyoene goes out to get a revenge...

I don't say I'm right but this is my interpretation: 10 year old Melanie had already fallen for Ariane, perhaps she fell in love right there and then, perhaps she was a fan before, perhaps she has been coming earlier to Conservatorium to take lessons or take exams or apply for an exam and she saw A. there playing and then she fell in love. However it happened, my theory is that it happened: I think for Melanie was the most important to prove herself to Ariane, not so much to be accepted to Conservatorium because of the music's sake. Maybe that's the reason she didn't want to apply again - Ariane was certainly not a regular professor there, maybe she was there only for that year's examination. I think that's why Melanie stopped playing at the exam, not because she was a person who could be easily distracted (remember when her father came into the room the previous night and she just continued playing), but because she was hurt that the person she idolized didn't listen to her carefully. Her emotions got in the way not her nerves. That's why 20 year old Melanie never offered to play together with Ariane, she couldn't bear to hear that Ariane doesn't like her play or thinks her play is not good enough. For those who doubt that Melanie had any feelings for Ariane except hate and anger: What about that scene when Ariane touches Melanie's cheek for the first time - Melanie is overwhelmed, she closes her eyes and trembles.

It's a pretty valid explanation mate, but it should have been worked into the plot. In fact you should have been a script consultant on this one, the result would have been more believable ! ;)

That's a bit too far-fetched - it is more than enough to say Melanie idolized Ariane because she was a celebrity pianist and couldn't bare her not listening to her audition carefully.
