The tears of daughter-in-law Julia

I find many people jabbering about the unbecoming length of the shots as well as the film itself. But yesterday evening, watching the film at home on dvd with my wife, we felt totally drawn into the story, and not for one moment did we feel shots were to long.

One scene stands out: the desperation of daughter-in-law Julia. Never have I seen anything similar. It just goes on and on, and watching the wretched woman spilling out her guts, was a baffling experience. The longer it took, the more it became uncomfortable, as if we were present in that room and witnessed the breakdown of the woman ourselves. In the end I felt tears running down my cheeks, so much did this get under my skin. Unbelievable powerful. A daring enterprise, and kudos' for the actress. What incredible feat.

yeah, i agree with you except minus the part where i found myself weeping. alice houri was devastating in her role as julia. i think the point of much this film was to elicit discomfort in the viewer. mission accomplished kechiche.
