What? It didn't receive good reviews because it's not that great of a movie. For example The Motorcycle Diaries, a "road" movie like this one, got mostly excellent reviews and has neither CGI nor "abstract action sequences."
The plot was predictable. Very, very predictable. There were no real "plot-twists," as the featured review states there are. The acting wasn't terrible, but it wasn't on par with the actresses' better works. Then again, they didn't have much to work with, as all three characters were incredibly *beep* cliche. You had the insanely conservative Mormon, the fat CrAzY "fun" woman, and the equalizer laid back neutral woman. And then, her step-daughter - my god, each time it would show her she was doing something almost satirically "wealthy-bitchish" - playing tennis in whites, etc. The dialogue itself wasn't all that terrible, but it wasn't really noteworthy, either.
All-in-all, it was just an average movie, and that's why it got average reviews.
