Alternate endings

I picked this movie at the video store after asking the three women in the store which movie I should get for my nnish(I was a math major) wife. We both enjoyed it, not bothered at all by its thoughtful pace, especially Kathy Bates' wisecracks. My question is, which of the endings is the most popular, the original, or one of the two alternates? I liked the last, with Argentina as the destination, but my wife liked the original. Why would anyone pick the first alternate?

***SPOILERS***

I preferred the last as well (Argentina). I was okay with the original, but wasn't too crazy about the closing voiceover ("I have nothing... but I have my friends"), as if she were now planning to live in her car, and was thrilled to do so. The other alternative (will in the ocean) was ridiculous and would have royally pissed me off if that had been the way the movie ended.

Cheers!

i agree, the preferred the Argentina one as well. it was a nice happy ending for a light-hearted movie with some depressing moments. it was vindication for lange's character, and it also answered the lingering question whether or not the new will existed (esp. since she swore he'd made one in the beginning).

anyway i do wonder why they decided to go with the original ending, but i didn't hate that one either. but yes, the one where she throws the will into the ocean was ridiculous!

I really really wish they left the Will part of the ending in the movie.
That will was what pretty much started the journey and the conflict between the characters.

The whole payoff of the movie was supposed to be the will I think. So when they don't show it, there is no payoff. It really means the husband didn't care about the will or the wife.

I think it was a huge mistake leaving the will out
