Mini-series site

it would seem, after a lot of searching, that IMDB does not have a page for the original mini-series. not that this show is bad, it's pretty damn good, but the original was so much better. they definitely should have kept the same concept, none of this giant robot roller disco crap

I'm inclined to disagree for a few reasons:

#1) The mini-series was, in total, a half-hour long. There were 5 6-minute sections and not a lot happened in each one individually (i.e., not enough material for an episode description). On top of that, overall, not much happened in the entire 30-minute segment. Watch all 5 episodes in one go, and you're left with a TON of unanswered questions.

#2) The original concept was WAY more violent than the new one. CN couldn't keep that up for a primetime show. Frankly, I enjoy the new sport MUCH more. It makes for a much more unique experience, none of the same old "giant robots fighting" dealie. It's way more engaging for any audience. For example, I watch the show with my father and he gets as big of a rush out of it as I do.

#3) "giant robot roller disco crap"? Wow, buddy. You obviously haven't watched enough of the new series to pass decent judgement about it. There are specific rules to this "roller disco", if you will. The three laps are all fundamentally different, with a different set of guidelines for each one. Plus, the realism factor is much higher. Just take a look at the mechs: They all have sponsor decals on them. It makes it a little more believable, since it's similar to modern-day NASCAR racing in that sense.

So, there you have it. Problems? Deal with it...

Ouch, guess no one is entitled to their opinion anymore. Look man, if you actually read my post I said that the show is actually pretty cool. I just liked the mini-series better for a few reasons:

#1) Yes, it was quite mini - five episodes that totaled a little over 20 minutes. But you must understand, that's the point of a mini-series. To offer up an idea and see how it does. You complain that watching all five episodes in a row leaves you with unanswered questions (I have all five btw). Well, have you ever watched an anime that doesn't do that? That's the point, the producers love putting those little things in your head so that people debate and fight and argue over it. In this case, they left some questions unanswered so that people would be left wanting more when/if the actual series came out.

#2.37) This isn't an attack at you just people in general, but people worry WAY too much about violence in TV/movies/video games. More specifically though, it wasn't any more violent than the edited Gundam or DBZ that was showed on Toonami. And that's edited. It really wasn't the same old "giant robots fighting" either. The size, movement, fighting styles, and fundamental design of the robots was different not only for each team, but it differed from most of the giant robot shows out there.

#3 1/2) Alright, alright, the roller disco crack was a bit biased, but can you blame me? That's cool, I didn't know any of the rules or anything, but there were rules for the original as well. And what's this about sponsor decals making it more realistic? The mini-series actually had sponsors too (Sledge Mamma for instance was run by the military). And how can you talk about realism with the mechs skating around like they do? Try skating like that in real life - it's tough, but in a giant robot? I dunno, just doesn't seem logical or even plausible to me.

Yea yea, I know, giant robots in general don't seem very logical. But whatever. I'd highly enjoy it if you came back to debate more, I love this stuff (I know, I'm two months late, I forgot I had even posted here).

Love and peace...

Haha, two months go by and I didn't realize how rude that post was... Sorry in general for that one, man. I just reread what I wrote and I am appauled at some of the flak I threw at you! Ok, here comes the numbers:

#1.) I also have all five miniseries episodes, and you're probably right. The producers probably just left the questions hanging to entice the CEOs, or whatever, into making more episodes so they can see what happens. I'm also a fan of the redone Battlestar Galactica, so I was basing my views about miniseries in general off of the BSG miniseries. That's actually a rather high standard to put a half-hour cartoon to.

#2.) Not even going to touch this one. Good point!

#3.) Yeah, the rules for the new series are actually pretty complex. There are different rules for each different lap. But, I didn't see too many guidelines in the miniseries. Maybe I just found it too chaotic. Also, I realize the teams in the miniseries had sponsors, but what I really love about the new one is the decals for the sponsors. It just adds a new level of, for lack of a better word, realism. And, again, the skating is... an issue. But, just think, would it be at all as interesting if they were on wheels? Hell, maybe it's just another unanswered question that just keeps us guessing!

This is actually a really great debate. We should talk more, I enjoy the thrill of the debate just as much as you seem to! And, yeah, I love this stuff, too. Giant robots really are my thing...

Good hunting...

Hey, gald you're back, I was afraid I was gonna be arguing with myself :P

Well, looks like numbers 1 and 2 belong to me, but I will concede on point number 3. You were correct in your first post, I really hadn't watched enough of it to pass fair judgement at the time. The decal factor is actually pretty cool, and they really do put a lot of detail into the management and business aspects of it. I was also unaware of the different rules according to the lap.

Haha, yea... then there's the skating. I dunno, it still just seems a little.... odd to me.

Hmm, so would you agree on a two to one outcome on the debate? Yay I win! (sorry, i can be a dick sometimes). Nah, I guess it's just a personal taste thing, eh? Anyway, what are some of your other anime favs? You are a worthy opponent and I'd love to debate or just discuss some more.

And hey...

Chicks dig giant robots.

Hey, hey, hey! I think I'm entitled to a point for the stuff NOT in the numbers, eh? That'd tie us (and lessen the "dick-factor," if you will :D). Yeah, the rules by lap (as I have seen them thus far. Any corrections are welcome!) are as follows:

Lap 1: Straight "footrace" in mech form. No contact between teams.
Lap 2: Battle round. At this point, the mechs are allowed to use special weapons and moves on the other team.
Lap 3: The mechs shift into speed mode (car-like thingy) and simply race to the finish.

And yeah, I agree that the skating factor IS a little out there...
I'm a huge fan of all things giant robots, so Eureka 7, IGPX (duh), Gundam, you name it! In fact, IM me at Neochiiz3000, and we'll be able to really get to it!

Oh, yeah. Chicks DO dig giant robots. Hardcore.
