A break?

What did the judge mean when he said to Kale that he gave him a break, compared to what he deserved, when he said "Don't test me." The break would have been no sentence, but then there'd been no movie.

Because Kale had done other offenses/crimes too, not just striking the teacher. Such as burglery, and the like. The sentence was for those offenses as well, not only for striking the teacher. "Don't test me." He was anticipating any backtalk or protest from Kale (about the sentence), and warning him not to, or he would make it more severe (most likely send him to jail).

What world do you live in where a guy can assault somebody on top of two other offences and they get no jail time whatsoever as a break? House arrest compared to jail, which do you take?

reply

Pretty sure these two guys have it wrong ^.

The judge says "losing a parent isn't easy, which is why im sentencing you to 3 months house arrest. I just gave you a break, don't test me."

The judge felt sorry for Kale and knew that the teacher said something about his father, so he thought he'd "give him a break". He then adds "don't test me." meaning if Kale tried to get an even lower punishment, he would just bump the punishment back up to the juvie sentence he was originally going to give to Kale.

Hope iv cleared things up a little :)

^Almost but not quite.
"Don't test me" was the judge saying: don't do anything else bc you won't get another break. Next time you do something wrong you get a real punishment.

I think I have to agree with labluestar. That the only reason he was giving him a mild punishment was because of his father's death. "Don't test me." Translation: "I ought to send you to juvenile hall, but since your father's death, I'll just give you three months house arrest. But if you get in trouble one more time, I won't be so lenient."

reply

Which is weird, you'd think the judge would've said that the first or second time, but the third strike is usually 'out'.

reply

Yeah thinking about it, that is a better explanation haha :P
