what was the point of Kristen Stewart's character?

I mean, I actually like her and certainly have nothing against her as an actress or a human being, but I couldn't help wondering what the need was for her to even be there.

My guess is that she represents shallow desperate starlets *beep* their way up the Hollywood ladder while helping boost the ego of Tinseltown men suffering a midlife crisis along the way

Huh?

From what I know about her, this is absolutely not who or what she is.

I was talking about Kristen Stewart's character. I do not know or care about her "real" self.

That wasn't her character either, though. She wasn't even in the business.

The point of having Kristen Stewart was to entice me to watch the movie. Is this the first film where Michael Wincott's character doesn't Die?

Spoilers forthcoming.

My guess (a near year after your original post) since I just watched the film is that she is there to give DeNiro's character a look into the mirror when it comes to his profession and lifestyle. The man DeNiro was in competition with was sleeping with his high school aged daughter. Later on, you see some others who throw their arm around a girl and wink to DeNiro, noting how the ladies are 16.

The revelation comes after a scene where DeNiro wakes up after spending a night with a younger woman. Basically, it's showing that some people in Hollywood use their influence to get young, pretty girls and not even their own families can be excluded. A cold bucket of water into DeNiro's character's face.

I'm betting it was simply to fulfill a contractual obligation

So, the guy who killed himself, who was having an affair with Ben's daughter Zoe, was in competition with Ben? I don't recall that the guy ever appeared on the screen, so he killed himself prior?

reply

It's called playing a character written by a screenwriter

reply

It was only to show that Ben is capable of having an actual relationship with at least one of his children. A little self serving, I guess.
