Why Do Hollywood Idiots Insist On Telling Us Their Story?

Not every story is fascinating, and not every story needs to be told.

Are we supposed to be sympathetic to this rich moron, who's biggest problem seems to be getting change for the valet? Everything is brought on by his choices, and who he is dealing with. Knucklehead "artistes", egomaniacal movie stars, backstabbing colleagues, a studio head who actually wants to make movies people want to see, etc. Never mind his personal failings with two busted marriages and the ex-wives and kids he clearly doesn't even know or parent. Nice cars, beautiful women who throw themselves at him, junkets to Cannes, oh poor baby!*vomit*

If this is truly based on Art Linson's book, then *beep* YOU, ART LINSON!!

reply

Because they are just that - idiots.

I'm very responsible, when ever something goes wrong they always say I'm responsible.

And not every film needs to be watched. I didn't much like it, but I can accept that it was only a film, without behaving like it's someone's life story. And because it was based on a supposedly autobiographical book doesn't make it any more real, either.

Get over yourself, you big crybaby.

reply

You're one to talk, bogwart-1...or should I call you...ART LINSON?!?!!!

reply

There's a word for people who ask a question and then answer it themselves, which is precisely what you did with your first post.

"Are we supposed to be sympathetic...?" and then you make the assumption that the answer is yes. Why? Just so you can argue about something?

Why are we supposed to feel sympathetic to Ben's plight? He made his bed, he can lay in it.

Crybaby.

reply

Wow, what a fantastic argument you make.

that's up to you to want to listen to a story or not, others are fascinated by what you obviously are not.

THANK GOODNESS for such stories !!

I am sorry this comment makes me feel like you didnt even see the film... actually it sounds like you read Lou Lumenicks review of this and just went off. I dont get this " if they have money and work to entertain us they have no soul and are worthless" shiz... Character study is character study, some people enjoy it and are ok with WHATEVER charachter they are served with as long as its a good film. I really dont get how you thought he didnt give a *beep* about his kids... not everything has to be spelled out in hugs and kodak moments you know.
whatever floats your boat I guess

Because no-one in the world had the faintest idea of the sort of things that went on in Hollywood before this revelatory masterpiece blew the lid off the whole industry.

reply

More importantly, why should Hollywood only cater to your personal tastes, millions of movies are made every year and I happened to like this one.
It wasn't the 'movie of the year' but it kept me entertained for a few hours and I happen to find that behind the scenes of filmmaking is an entertaining premise with plenty of room to explore.

Good movies are supposed to be about flawed people thats where the drama comes from.

I agree in a sense but at the same time I applaud the effort in trying to reveal a little more intimacy in the business and that's to say nothing of the fact that Hollywood in general needs a little more variety these days. It's a bold decision but not really avante garde or ground breaking as this genre has been flirted with before.

I think a rating of 6 out of 10 is fair but that's only because individuals like yourself aren't acclimated to that sort of story telling. With a little more refinement and exposure in general to this type of narrative, it could be a refreshing departure from the same old, same old.

The flaws of the main characters "character" doesnt even scratch the surface as to why this movie stinks. I'll even go so far as to say they are almost irrelevant within that context.

reply

This Movie was not meant to show how poor the rich people are, this movie was to show people how F#cked up the people inside Hollywood are.

[Excuse my english im not Canadian/American/English/Australien/whatever...]

I am sure we have seen enough films by now showing us how messed up Hollywood is!

Its that man again!!
