think about it. if your girlfriend is dead, and you have to go and defeat the 16 colusiss, in order to bring her back, would you REALLY, dispite you have to climb and jump and stuff, REALLY almost sacrifice yourself, to defeat ALL of the colusiss, just to save ONE girl, even if its your wife...?
i would of say hell no, dump that bitch, and find myself another girlfriend. i would not even put my life on the line if i have to defeat just one.
when i played this game, i too was like "yeah wtf for one girl?" but when i thought about the guy i like, i would go to hell and back for him. it's all a matter of how much you love someone.
plus, this is story is fiction, yes? so most things are exaggerated, much like his love for her.

Well, it does describe their relationship as one of love (at least the game-case says that) so I'm guessing it was his girlfriend who got sacraficed and he may have even taken part in it unwillingly (Emon and his soldiers wear the same garments as Wander - and Emon seems to know Wander)
As for the question. It depends... Wander seemed to me that without Mono, he saw no reason to live. So why not risk your life to save the only person who makes life worth living?
She could very well be. We don't even know if Agro necessarily belongs to Wander! He could have very well stolen that horse (it looks like a war horse anyway), and maybe even that sword, as a means to get to the Forbidden Land. This means that Agro and Wander bond during the game, which make it quite touching.
Not to mention, the original tagline was, "How far would you go for love?"
i seriously doubt that. if agro and wander didn't know each other, they obviously wouldn't have been that close, whether or not they knew each other from before. why would a horse be so eager so early on in their friendship that he would take a fall for wander?
plus, if agro didn't like wander, he could EASILY kill him. agro is most def. wander's horse.
I don't know about the power of love, but barring video game physics, most people would die a horrible death on the first colossus. Either by getting thrown around and trampled on by Agro, or falling from the first cliff.
And that post, rmsforlife, summarizes why you might never be happy...

How deliciously terrible of you to say... I know if I was in the situation, I would at least try my hardest, if I felt I could...
I would hands down. Many of the colossus were just stupid and slow and besides if you got hit just run off to the side and take a breather. With the combination of love and adreniline I'd have all of those beast down in no time.... Really though all of them were confined in one way or another and there were so many crannies one would hide in. I would totally do it.
I wouldn't do it. Not because I am an evil bastard, but because if she really loved me, she would want me to live my life as best I could without her. Before any of you call me "heartless", I will say that the love of my life did die, and I wouldn't do this.

Yeah, the game's basically one big piece of symbolism for the idea of the strength of love being able to overcome "impossible" obstacles in life. That's the whole reason it had no other dialogue or ideas to stray from that one goal. So,for the right woman I'd do my best even if it seemed impossible.
