DVD Delayed Until Early 2010

According to Writer-director Larry Blamire's email to the LSOC Yahoo Group on 7/10/09:

"I recently spoke to IFC and have some update on SCREAMING FOREHEAD. With DVD sales down, IFC has had to cut back and will not be releasing all of its current feature acquisitions on DVD. The GOOD news is TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD will indeed be among those released. IFC will now be having MPI handle their DVD releasing. The slightly sorta kinda bad news is it's looking like TotSF will not likely be out this year, but some time early 2010."

How is it that all those God Awful unwatchable SyFy channel movies get made and released on DVD, but Larry freeking Blamire movies have this much trouble getting distribution? It just ain't right...

The problem is the viewers themselves. People have no standards of quality and tune in for those awful SyFy flicks in droves, hence they get DVDs. Larry Blamire's films cater to a niche crowd and not to the stupid masses, so we get screwed over for not having higher numbers.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Well, it's early 2010. ;) Any news on a release?

Subject: [LSOC] Trail of the Screaming Forehead on DVD

Hi folks,
There is a deal closing right now for the DVD release of the official director's cut of the long-awaited TRAIL OF THE SREAMING FOREHEAD. This will be packed with all the usual extras/goodies and well worth the wait. I'm estimating towards the end of the year, and I'll keep you posted as it closes.

Been a long time coming and we're pleased that it's finally happening and with the right company. Thanks for your patience, and for being the darn swell fans that you are.
Best,
Larry Blamire

So.... foreheads; almost prowling.

And amen to TheSolarSailor's comment.

Great news! A long, painful wait, but at least we know it's going to happen. :) Thanks for posting that, S.L.

Thanks for the update, Silent_Larry. Why has this film had such a hard time? The others are getting released in much shorter time spans than this one. The Lost Skeleton Returns Again and Dark and Stormy Night are both due out later this month, so what has been the hangup here? This film was made in 2007 for goodness sakes!

Well, I am not the person to give an authoritative answer to that, although I'm sure I could concoct a doozy of a misguided outsider's uninformed assumption that would sound like... something. But I won't go there.

I will say that I've more or less been told they expect subsequent productions will get released a lot more smoothly than TOTSF. I would say this seems to be the case, especially now that Larry B. and Shout Factory appear to have clicked so well. But the TOTSF deal was apparently already in the pipe before all that came along... some sort of slow, gunky pipe. We will just have to wait for it to come oozing out the end. My, wasn't that a pretty picture?

But I'm kind of an idiot, so ya know... factor that in.

The problem is, Blaymire doesn't have a distribution channel that has the kind of power SyFy does. They have millions of viewers and they also have partnerships to handle the distribution of the DVD.

I guarantee you if Larry Blaymire wanted to allow SyFy to show his movie and then distribute it on DVD, they would gladly do that, for a hefty price.

Just saw this on the 'horror' channel, on cable in the UK.

It's a silly childish romp, with lots of stilted dialogue. It sort of works as a comedy 50s sci-fi spoof, but it's more like watching a bunch of amateurs having a laugh.

Ouch...

I'd say it was exactly what it was supposed to be. For the most part it took itself (over) seriously. As for the actors I pretty much loved everybody, especially Brian Howe and Dan Conroy as the "shipmates." I didn't enjoy others as much as I had in "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra," but the cast was pretty good nonetheless... The dialogue was intentionally stilted; this may well be an acquired taste, but I found it to be hilarious. Finally, when comparing this picture to "Lost Skeleton" (which is possibly the only fair comparison given the budget and the players), it certainly represents a dramatic improvement in terms of technical craft--- the cinematography, high definition format, and special effects are leaps and bounds over its standard-def spiritual predecessor.

Bottom line: for a movie budgeted south of $1 million about evil crawling tongues, this was a worthy and imaginative effort.

I haven't seen the Lost Skeleton flick, but I thought this was pretty decent. It started off really well, was very quirky and had some great characters and colouring. However, I felt the jokes got a bit tired by the end and it kind of limped into the credits somewhat...
