Petition

Never tried this before however I feel "The Dresden Files", though it may not be accurate to the books, is one show that deserves a second chance. I'm tired of seeing good shows canceled and replaced with crappy ones (remember firefly everyone). SO, Consider this the beginning of a petition to bring back "The Dresden Files", all in favor of bringing it back post here. Lets see what happens and keep our fingers crossed.

I would very much like to see 'The Dresden Files' continue.

Same Here, and be sure and sign all of the other petitions online as well.

May not work, but it couldn't hurt.

reply

i love that show!!!
BRING IT BACK!!!!
it was just starting to get really interesting!

reply

I liked it. I'd like to see more. It needed to find its way, it was still stumbling, but it was fun & I enjoyed it. I’d like to see it get the chance to grow up.

reply

Count me in. Loved the show, and am getting hooked on the books. Give us more!

reply

Signed. My wife and I were both disappointed at it being canceled.

reply

It IS a great show and i want it to continue...do you think now that the strike has been over it can get another chance??

reply

Paul Blackthorne has been in two other series since the cancellation, so how can it get another chance as most fans would be upset if they RE-CAST Dresden....????

reply

"Most fans"? Maybe most fans of the tv series. Certainly not most fans of the books. The actor was miscast.

reply

Don't speak for all the book fans. Have you seen how many people on Jim Butcher's forum use Paul Blackthorne as their message avatar / icon?

reply

I just got the first season on DVD from the library. I was really disappointed that it stopped there. They could have done a lot with it.

reply

Signed the petition. I can't believe this show got canceled.

reply

This is stupid. When was the last time that an online petition accomplished anything?

Jericho

reply

"CBS officially announced Jericho's cancellation on May 16, 2007. Several online communities, including the official Jericho forums, launched campaigns in an effort to revive the show. Fans also sent just over 20 tons of nuts to CBS headquarters; this referred to a scene from the season one finale Why We Fight where Jake Green repeats General Anthony McAuliffe's historic phrase "Nuts!" from the Battle of Bastogne.[26] The peanuts and other proceeds from the donations have been donated to charities,[27] including the rebuilding effort in Greensburg, Kansas,[28] a real-life town that was largely destroyed by a monstrous tornado in 2007."

That's pretty different from a petition.

Ummm no, not at all. Pay attention to this part:

"Several online communities, including the official Jericho forums, launched campaigns in an effort to revive the show."

Those ARE the petitions that brought the show back. You must have skipped that part of your quote because that refers to the online petitions and other actions that were undertaken to bring the show back.

Oh yeah, add my name to this petition as well, I just recently got into the show and I think it's great so I'd love to see it brought back from the TV cemetary.

reply

Those ARE the petitions that brought the show back.
Post hoc fallacy. Just because petitions were used doesn't mean that petitions were the reason they brought back the show.

reply

BS. And you "know" this how, exactly? The FACT of the matter is, it was all part of a massive campaign staged by the fans to resurrect the show, and it worked.

reply

Simply putting out an online petition is not a "massive effort." You can find an online petition on just about anything.

reply

You're certainly the negative Nancy, aren't you?

Online petitioning earned Forever Knight a second volume to it's soundtrack. The CD case even thanks certain members of the Forever Knight online fan community by their user names.

Online petitioning caused Disney's Gargoyles to continue ten years later as a comic book series.

Online petitioning got Jerricho one last season that it originally wasn't going to have.

Online petitioning got Farscape it's Peace Keeper Wars and this new online thing that they're doing.

Online petitioning got Firefly it's Serenity movie.

I, too, am tired of having quality shows killed off to be replaced by dreck. If this helps, great. If not, what's the harm? A few minutes time. For the hours of entertainment it could result in, I'll consider it a fair cost.

THINK....It's not illegal YET!

reply

Strange that they'd ignore a movie with 15,000 signatures.

I agree. However, it's difficult to predict how many of the PTB might ever hear of a thread like this. During the limbo period when nobody knew whether it was canceled, various groups got together to write letters to the executives (email being largely unreliable and snailmail being more memorable for its sheer bulk). Some of these groups are still in operation -- a quick search led me to these links:

http://dresdencity.org/

Here, too, is an online petition. Petition signatures don't carry as much weight as actual letters and phone calls, but they sure can't hurt.

And there's also http://www.heynielsen.com/ , where one can apparently make one's opinion count even if there's no Nielsen box beside one's couch.

Sorry for the long-winded response, but I hope these links help!

The idea here, people, was to get as many people as possible to join behind a cause to bring it back, the more people who support the show the more likely they are to sign other petitions, and to become more interested in bringing it back, and believe it or not executives will look at places like this, and sometimes jsut by noticing the number of petitions they realize what they lost, hence the reason firefly was able to return in the movie serenity, so i would advise against calling and act like this useless, there are no certainties, but there is always the chance, and every little bit of support helps. So please be sure to continue.

reply

Right, Tsavo, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

BJ

reply

Exactly. The one SURE way to guarantee that the Dresden Files will never return to TV is doing absolutely nothing.

Plus, doing nothing will let the Execs rest easy in their belief that they can air whatever garbage they like and dump whatever they don't and the viewers will just suck it up and keep coming back.

I'm not willing to do neither.

I would absolutely love to see this back on the air.

I said, basically peacefull.

reply

Love to see it brought back.

reply

If online petitioning couldn't bring back Firefly or Farscape this show has no hope. But yeah, bring it back.

reply

part of the reason firefly was brought back as a movie was due to the fan support. petitions, letters, etc.

reply

*beep* it i'll sign. I loved this show, was filling a lack of entertainment void.

reply

Ditto, this show had loads of potential

The Dresden Files should most certainly get another chance to shine because it is clear that all new series suffer from 1st season syndrome, anyone having seen the character evolution on Star Trek TNG from beginning to end will most likely agree that if it had not had the massive fanbase from the Kirk series willing to back it through thick or thin then it would never have made it past season 1 either, difficult to explain but if you watch some of season 1 then compare with some of season 7 then you will see what I mean
