Miles and his mother. . . .

Just to clarify, the Ballet teacher was Miles mother, correct? Why was this such an issue for Sarah? I didn't understand. The topic never came up. He said he was raised by wolves. Why did she take it so personally. He didn't look mixed :)

Thoughts?

Where she was thinking ballet was all she was going to do. But was this going to be her life where she was not wanting to be like her but be herself. She finally saw that following someones footsteps was not what she wanted but making her steps. She almost and would surely drop out of Julliard like Miles did. In the end she looked like she might become a hip-hop ballerina.

was he supposed to be adopted.

no his mom is white his dad is black there for hes mixed, didnt you cee the pic in the movie it was him his mom and his black dad

She married Miles dad and he died (since he was not there) so she must have given birth to him since they are so close together but battling like parents and kids do.

this is sooo confusing. and no offense to no one i think this movie was NOT good.

he wasn't dead i know im a bit late (2yrs late) on this reply but he didnt die he actually saids in the movie 'i consider it a present from 2 parents who don't speak' referring to his apartment... so thus his mother and father are divorced
as other comments about the whole beatboxing scene... i agree that it was meant that miles is ashamed of his white side of culture..
as of the issue with sarah being made with miles for not telling her about his mum i have NO IDEA!!! i thought i did but now i don't lol

That's got nothing to do with the OP's question...

And yeah I agree with the OP, I don't get what was so wrong about it. And also you saw a pic of Miles, his mother, and this other black guy, so I guess that could have been his father and Miles is mixed-race, but then there was another picture of the mum and this white guy so maybe that was Miles's dad and he was adopted and the black guy was his brother? It really wasn't explained very well. Plus that whole "Are you humming?" "No, I'm beatboxing, it's part of my culture" thing really didn't make sense if she was his mother.

I think Miles is mixed. The picture that Sara takes of him,his mother and his father says it all.AS for the 'it's part of my culture' comment.I think Miles was just trying to be sarcastic, and show that they really have nothing in common and are disconnected from each others lives, because in their confrontation in the dance studio his mother says to him 'You're ashamed of where you come from' meaning his upper class posh roots as opposed to the street persona he wants everyone to believe he has.

I too was confused by her rage -- so she's his mother... so what? I didn't get it personally- but the movie was ok.

reply

I think she was mad because he didn't tell her. It was like he knew how important it was to her but failed to mention it and worse lied to her about it. Also she was trying so hard to keep the hip hop separate from her ballet and this just crossed the line..... I think lol

reply

Oh no my boyfriend didnt tell me he's mother was my cray teacher, must go break up with him now...and then cry, big freaking deal. Movie was crap, too much unexplained melodramatic generic clicheic sequences, "You record ice breaking,...lets have sex" wth,

Only cool thing about the movie, as with most dance movies is the dance, and music, Neyo was cool too, end of story.

Well, I have a conclusion about this. It's an issue for Sarah because Miles told her that he's abandoned, and this was his inspiration to his music. When Sarah found out about her mother, she felt betrayed. About his mother, she kind of don't like the path Miles is leading. It's a nice movie though...

This wasn't the worst movie ever, but that scene was by far the stupidest thing I've seen in a movie like this. There's always a scene in a romantic comedy or a regular romance type movie where the guy lies (or is believed to have lied) or didn't mention something that the girl discovers at the end of the 2nd act then he usually has to make the mad dash across town to stop the girl from leaving town and grovel in front of her and strangers so that she will take his sorry ass back and the movie can go off.

Granted, the mad dash wasn't it this, but Jesus Christ was that breakup scene at the end of the 2nd act forced. I seriously was staring wide-eyed at my TV going "what happened? what did he do? why is she so mad? THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!" God forbid he ever cheats on her or gives her VD, she might freak out and jump off a cliff or something.

I think she felt betrayed because her ballet teacher (Monique) was a major inspiration for her. From the first scene in the film with Miles and Sarah you could see she admired her Monique, she was Sarahs idol. Then time passes and her teacher is so hard on her and she's struggling between the two types of dancing and she meets Miles, who is wholy apart of the world that she longs to be in but is being held back because of her ballet dreams and when she realises that Miles is Moniques son she thinks that this could compromise her dreams of being a ballerina.

I think what really got to her was the fact that Miles wasn't raised by his parents, I don't know what his dad did but its evident that Monique focused on her ballet career...ie for Monique to become the ballerina that Sarah admired so much she abandoned her son, she left his grandfather and schools to raise him and i think that was the first point that Sarah has thought, ballet is not for me, and thast would have scared the *beep* out of her because thats all shes ever wanted to be, thats what her mother wanted her to be and I think she would blame Miles for her dreams changing because he was the one pushing her towards hip hop. The lie was used as an excuse for her to get away from the world of hip hop get her back on track with ballet.

Thats just what I think anyway, I just figure that she was at the emotional point of breaking with the ballet, the hip hop, being soooo freaking burnt out, feelong like she's getting no where and being torn between two things she loves, that she snapped, and it was Miles who bore the brunt of it all. Thats what happens right? we snap at the people we love the most cos we know they'll forgive us.

**I thought this wouldn't hurt a lot..I guess not**
