i was in no way stating that everyone should sound the same. i was however voicing my opinion over the fact that her character is supposed to be from chicago and she has an eastern european accent.

Well she is Polish you know, Yu are going to hear some of her accent at some point in the film.

Ya I noticed her accent.

It was a little weird considering her character is originally from Wisconsin

Lawrence Welk who had a popular televison show a few years ago was born and raised in North Dakota and had a thick German accent all his life.

A lot of Polish in Chicago, the biggest Polish population outside NYC...I know that people from eastern European countries has very strong accent and I didn't notice in her accent anything strong maybe somewhere but not always...

I liked it... Then again I had no idea she was supposed to be the same character throughout the film! LOL They should have made this a remake; not a sequel!

What's wrong with her having an accent? It gave her character a bit of culture... Besides, I believe izabella Miko grew up outside of the US. In any case, her character in "Coyote Ugly" also had an accent and was known as "The Russian Tease"

It's not her having the accent,its her character having an accent.She can't have that accent playing sara from wisconsin.It just doesn't go along with the character and it draws more attention to the fact that it isn't the same person and it makes it sort of seem like a completely different movie.It just kind of bothers me that they didn't really draw into the original movie,it would have been better if it wasn't a sequel at all but just an entirely different movie because it's just compared to the original which I personally like better.

i'm watching it right now (its on pause) and yeah, her accent is really strong
i'm watching it thinking she's a different character, not the same girl from the first movie.. she just doesn't fit the role
don't get me wrong, she has a GORGEOUS accent. it's just not right for this.

SHE'S PLAYING A CHARACTER WHO IS AMERICAN!
Obviously she's NOT supposed to have a european accent that's all the person was trying to say. What if you were watchin The Queen and all of a sudden Helen Mirren spoke in a latin american accent? Wouldn't that be off especially because the queen of england is BRITISH!

I wouldn't have had a problem with her character having an accent if she were doing the original interpreation. But she's supposed to be the SAME person Julia Stiles played. Choosing an actress, although a gorgeous and talented one, with a thick accent was a bad choice. It made switching actresses that much more noticable.

Yeah, I missed the first part where it had an interview style bit, and I didn't realise it was the same character til I came on here!! How embarrassing. Why didn't they just make a different character with a similar story?

When I saw this thread, I thought you meant Jacqueline Bisset's posh English accent, which DID bother me with it's fakeness and inauthenticity. No-one I know speaks in that manner! Even the Royal Family would find it over the top. I get the feeling that a lot of Brits in American films are told to talk this way, to highlight the fact they are from that country. We're not all toffs who live in stately homes, you know! :p
