i could go on and on and on but now its your turn
sadly these days, if it will make money hollywood will do it.
It's already too late for some of my favorite movies which have been remade: Psycho, Carrie, Halloween, Black Christmas, The Stepfather, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wicker Man, The Stepford Wives (which arguably could have been a great remake in more competent hands).
Some other favorites that I really hope never get the remake treatment:
Rosemary's Baby Looking for Mr. Goodbar Dog Day Afternoon Bonnie and Clyde The Birds Tootsie 3 Days of the Condor They Shoot Horses, Don't They? Poltergeist Alien (which is apparently being remade now, alas)
good ones, i think that ALIEN remake turned into a PREQUAL and RIDLEY SCOTT is on board to direct.....( good news to me anyway) more that shouldnt be touched..... rolling thunder vanishing point bring me the head of alfredo garcia marathon man videodrome the misfits bad day at black rock sunset blvrd. one flew over the cuckoos nest the conversation the red shoes treasure of the sierra madre shane the grifters
Psycho - it was a shot-by-shot remake, no? I can't imagine why people who loved the original wouldn't like the remake (granted, I've only seen the original and didn't think much of it). The most likely cause is that Psycho is just dated (in both horror and psychology). Carrie - I don' think that counts. It was Stephen King's keeping closer with the book (I haven't seen the remake). I know he also did that with The Shining (I haven't seen either version). Dog Day Afternoon - It would be a job remaking that one. You'd have to change 2/3 of the plot to make it not look like a homophobic, transphobic, dated relic from the 70s. Tootsie - That wasn't anything special to begin with, IMHO (not bad, but definitely overrated).
Good lord, the list of films that shouldn't be remade is endless compared to the list if films that SHOULD be remade.
Try that as a starting point. It will make for a much more interesting conversation.
Like Man with the Golden Arm -- that film cries out for a modern adaptation, without the stagey theatrics.
Or, how about: Nightmare Alley, the Tyrone Power film in which he rises to the top as a fake mentalist, only to end up a circus geek. That film also screams out for a updated remake.
You can't say that with any veracity about more than maybe a dozen films.
your post is just chock full of advice isnt it? well check the date its several years since i made these posts,, im surprised im still getting responces, however the titles that got the MOST responces were for SUSPIRIA, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, and EVIL DEAD.
