Impression of exact location / Denomination

I'm watching this film on BBC2 and been reading the synopsis at the same time.

I don't know if the location or denomination was made explicit by the film-makers, but it seems that this film could/would have been set around the Northern/Southern Irish border - there is even a town on the border, halfway between Armagh and Monaghan towns called Middletown. This fits with the fuel smuggling, which continues to this day. There was also the bundle of Bank of England sterling notes that Gabriel threw into the fire early on which surely makes it unlikely to be just set in simple rural Ireland as it has been described.

I figure Gabriel's denomination to be Church of Ireland or maybe Presbyterian either of which would make him a minister not priest.

It's definitely in NI, not the Republic. The denomination of "Church of God" seems to be made up, but certainly a form of Protestantism.
