Never really understood 'swears'...

It's a word.
It hurts no one.
It offends very few.
And there's words that mean the same thing. Like there's $hit and poop. Synonyms. But only one is a swear.

One is childish and one is for mature audiences only.

Near as I can tell, the argument against profane language is basically a class struggle. All the words "vulgar" or "crude" really mean is "of low social standing." People with wealth decide what's socially acceptable, which means that if a commoner does it a lot, it's intolerable.

"Hey, hey, MPAA! How many movies did you censor today?"

With the English language, it's always been a class struggle. When the Romans invaded Britain, the indigenous population spoke a dialect of German. The Romans, of course, considered themselves descended from the Gods, and the natives in the lands they conquered were considered subhuman. Ergo, the language that the natives spoke was vulgar and offensive to Roman ears. Only Latin was a civilized tongue.

Modern English is a mixed bag...but mostly, it's derived from German and Latin. Virtually all "curse words" are Germanic (fuc|<, sh!t, a$$hole), while the "proper" terms for the same things (copulate, feces, rectum) have their origins in Latin. So when we refer to certain words as "bad" language, we're essentially just carrying on the same linguistic prejudice that has existed for nearly 2000 years. Sad but true.

Swear words have to have a sort of "hard" sound to them to have any shock value. C unt is usually considered the worst(other than racial slurs)partly because of how it sounds - it has the perfect "clicky" sound for a swearword.

These cartoons are truly bizarre and frightening!

I agree.

However, if you were new to this planet would that word sound odd at all? We've made it that way.

Anyways, I can't wait to see this movie. It should be in my mailbox in an hour or two.

Heavy Metal - 8/10
Ransom - 9/10

That means English is one big racial slur...against ME! But still vulgar words make no sense. "Sh!t" is bad but "Crap" isn't. It makes no sense.

I know a magic trick! Hold down Alt and F4!
