Am I the only one that gets choked up when Sinead O' Connor's version of silent night starts playing and the elves are watching the kids open the gifts that worked so hard on?
It's really because of the song. If it was literally any other song I would probably be fine.
Anybody else?
The song does help the scene become more touching. I also love the fact that their greatest celebration at the end of a good job is to simply see the happiness that Christmas brings to others.

That scene turns what was already a fairly enjoyable Christmas time movie into one of my favorite Christmas movies for me.

shareI agree with you. At least in this movie Santa didn't say that there would be no more Christmas if Santa was gone, like they said in...I believe it was The Santa Claus 2 and 3.
After all, the day IS about Christ and it is His birthday that is being celebrated...hence Christmas.
And also...who knew Sinead O'Connor could bring such loveliness to probably the most sacred of Christmas songs! Wow!

Funny how differently people can see things, I hated that song, it was one of the worst versions of Silent Night I've ever heard and honestly I didn't think you could mess up that song, really killed what should have been a good moment IMHO.

shareI round that scene so BEAUTIFUL it almost made me sob. I wasn't expecting it but it really hit the feels hard! It even made me consider it would be nice to form a family of my own (something I had never thought about much before, because they all seemed so happy, the children especially, whilst sharing that moment. More than about presents, I felt that simple Christmas movie scene displayed a feeling of love that is hard to ignore. Plus the song is just beautiful too!
You could say this scene alone makes the film worth a watch.
