Eno’s comment - awesome

Eno says:
”I have to say it's humiliating to hear this…you just think 'Christ we haven't got any further!' I just keep hearing all these bands that sound like bloody Roxy Music and Talking Heads. We haven't got any further than this. It's a disgrace really!"

I never heard the great Eno speak like that of anyone, and after hearing Walker’s stuff I can understand what he means. His later material should be taught in music schools.

This film is a definite must for any musician.

Listening to “Tilt” and “The Drift” is a must for anyone who has anything to do with recording sound and music.

I agree and don't understand this phobia(?), or whatever it is, about Scott. I guess he is just too far out there for the garden variety music student, much less music fan. I'm just glad he exists and am happy to keep his work a secret treasure, as I have for many years. I really hoped this film would unleash him onto the world, but I can't really imagine a world where everyone loves Scott Walker and "Britain's Got Talent" at the same time.

Hello, NicodemusAtrophy:

I'm not surprised to find you here! Eno is right on the mark with that comment, and coming from him, that is the ultimate praise.

I try to give bands like the Arcade Fire, the Arctic Monkeys, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket and the like a chance, but I'm failing to hear the brilliance their fans insist is there. I wonder why I don't just save my money and play my Scott Walker or Roxy Music albums again instead.

I like Mr Eno's music and he's obviously a smart guy, but I'm not sure I agree with his comment about no-one getting beyond Roxy Music and Talking Heads (notably two bands that HE was associated with).

There is challenging and interesting music out there which take us further than Roxy and the Heads. SunO))) for example, or Susumu Yokota, Ben Frost, Murcof, all come from a Sound-Design/avant-garde place and none sound like Roxy/Heads.

Arcade Fire/ Arctic Monkeys / Death Cab /Etc do what they do and people love them for it. But even within the rock genre there is newness and experimentalism. Deerhoof, Field Music, Boredoms, Rangers, Animal Collective and many more all doing interesting things and sounding new. They are obscurist by definition, like Scott Walker.

All of thesehave elements of past bands, but so did Roxy Music (bits of Velvets/Iggy/Rock n roll) and Talking Heads (The Modern Lovers/Television). These bands were popular and sold lots of records, but if either of them had made a record like The Drift, it would stay on the shelves. People like a melody and a beat, and there aren't many of us with the patience or the stomach to take on Mr Walkers latest works.

I've been in the group for years and I know, he always listens.
