Strange plot (Spoilers)

What do you think about the following: Bad guy Plender wants revenge because he was raped as a teenager when Vincent locked him in with a homeless man. But before you (as a viewer) know this there is a scene when someone gives Plender a tip (which Plender pays for) about his next blackmail victim (Vincent). I mean the film starts out as a movie about blackmail but suddenly it is all about revenge. And if it is about revenge then Plender wouldn´t need a tip about Vincent. So is this tip scene just a HUGE coincidence or am I missing something here?

Having just watched the film, I don't think it was a tip but a file containing everything about Vincent's life that Plender didn't already know - family / marriage / impending divorce / wife from a very wealthy family / children / schools ; career as a photographer / his business & colleagues / employees; credit / financial history; criminal record etc. - probably obtained from a contact in Public records or the Police.

I got the impression that by knowing his target extremely well, he can tailor the set-up for the blackmail scenario - e.g. the wording of the advert placed in newspaper to lure the lawyer (Cendras) & setting up the mugging of his two colleagues at the photo studio to prevent any witness(es) to the "rape".

I did love his infallible lock picking machine & the fact that no one had any security alarms!

Plender hasnt been tracking Vincent for his whole life.

When Plender's mum dies, Plender decides to get vengeance. So he pays somebody to locate Vincent, and to dig into Vincent's life for any info which may be useful.

The results of that search is what Plender was receiving. He wasnt been given Vincent's details by chance.
