I don't know, I didn't get any of that about her personally. I think she genuinely believed in what she was doing, and genuinely thought she was doing "good works".
The problem was that her perception of the world — "Muslims are training their kids to kill for Good, so we'd better do it too" — was seriously out of shape, and her way of speaking to the kids amounted to emotional blackmail to get them to see things the same way she did.
Well-meaning, maybe, but seriously damaging.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

-So did Hitler. That doesn't make what they're doing objectively acceptable. Name another time someone can scream at children 'this means war!' and get them to chant it in the name of hatred (towards those who don't believe), and it's OK. Anyone else does that and they're labeled as insane. Do it in the name of religion, and you're 'doing god work.'
It's crazy...

Really? Hitler? You're going to go the full Godwin three words in?
I think you might have missed my final sentence. I didn't say that what she was doing was acceptable, objectively or otherwise. But I don't think she's evil, sick or twisted. I think fanaticism is, and my point was that the documentary, if anything, shows the disparity between Beth's perception of herself and the effect she's producing.
I definitely agree it's crazy. ;-)

Good point! I just wanted the 'but she thought she was doing good!' idea to be challenged. The view she has of herself vs what the public thinks is DEFINITELY at odds!
But I don't think she's evil, sick or twisted. I think fanaticism is
-Eh, it's hard to split the two. If your fanaticism leads you to want to wage war on those who don't believe what you do, that's evil right? Just a thought to be pondered, thanks for the reply!

Actually, I've edited what I wrote, because your comment puzzles me. Why do you want to challenge my comment that she thought she was doing good, specifically?
Of course you're welcome to disagree wth it, but it's not as if it's demonstrably wrong. I think it's true, or I wouldn't have written it. And as we've kinda agreed, the film shows the disparity between what a lot of these people tell themselves they're doing, and what they demonstrate to the world.
So why does my statement bother you so much? Why are you unwilling to think that perhaps she does think she'd doing good?
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
Actually I never disagreed with it. if you reread, all I did was point out that Hitler thought he was doing good too, that doesn't make it OBJECTIVELY alright from a public POV...

Ya I have heard she was a lesbian too. I suppose it could be possible. I noticed she dressed in a very masculine manner. She was wearing men's shirts throughout the film and seemed more masculine.
It's possible she is straight but she did seem to have a touch of butch to her.

In this, or at least the Evangelical world, you're not gay or lesbian unless you declare it and actively live it, hence their belief of "lifestyle choice".
