Yes, this programme used to scare me green! Far too dark and terrifying for a kids series! I always preferred the cartoon 'Moomin' which came out in the early 90s to this

reply

omg yeh! soo glad im not the only one that was completely freaked by this!

my ultimate freaky episode was when the Groke came to their house...just the fact that it was always had the same face and didnt seem to move *shudders*

Anyway i've found it on youtube and have made my peace with it :P
Here's the link if anyone else wants a trip down the darker side of memory lane:

Yes, very disturbing. I'm not sure my head was ever quite the same after the Moomins.

Absolutely terrifying it had this creepy surreal feeling. I was literally petrified after I watched the christmas special. NEVER AGAIN!

Well, it certainly made the season special for you, then!!

How nobody thought at any point, 'Goodness, this is going to really mess with young children's minds' astonishes me to this day.

I loved & still sorta love this programme soo much, however I used to watch it in Polish. The Groke was the freakiest thing in existence whaen I was about 5-6 years old. I only remembered it faintly and that made it ever more scary. Gosh! :)

Im a FFVIII fan. You name it, I know it.

Well, certainly there'd be a lot of competition for that prestigious post!

In response to the earlier post re: preferring the 1990s cartoon "Moomin", yes it wasn't as scary as this version - but this version was far more faithful to the books. Author the late Tove Jansson hated the 1990s series, but according the narrator of "The Moomins" (the late Richard 'Stinker' Murdoch, whose name always made me laugh when it came up in full in the opening titles!) she was very happy with this one and was even involved in the production.

PS - I'm still scared of the Groke!
