The “Guy” is an idiot

Why did that idiot take a “shortcut”? This makes no sense and is a plot hole bc he claimed to have taken that trip a million times before. I think he had something sinister in the making. He may have took her that way to hurt her, but couldn’t bc of his injuries causing death. He was way to obsessed knowing exactly the type of gourmet foods to the T. Maybe to redeem himself he decided he would lead her out of there due to his creepiness and guilt. Besides, what type of idiot takes said shortcut in that bad weather? He had something bad going on in his head. Makes no sense.
