Sweet Guy

Regardless of all the juvenile and negative comments made at this board by pretentious everything-bores-me film snobs and 14 year olds with limited attention spans who hate anything that isn't a nonstop bloodbath, I found this to be one of the better horror films made in recent years. The acting is topnotch and unlike most modern-day horror films, one actually cares what happens to the characters. The film has all the ingredients of a truly good horror story: atmosphere, mood, and suspense, plus it's genuinely scary.

While others may have found the male character's initial behavior creepy and stalkerish -- and I agree that some of his tactics were questionable -- he proved to be a sweet, likable guy who just wanted the chance to get to know someone better and express his feelings towards her. Many of us, especially when we're college age, make clumsy fools of ourselves when pursuing and showing an interest in another and sometimes go about it in all the wrong ways, but his efforts and motives were sincere and innocent. Even though he's practically broke, drives a beat up car, and has spent money he can't afford just to please her, he's still a sweet-natured and romantic guy who does his best with what he has regardless of the struggle. He's not some rich brat everything came easy for who's use to getting whatever he wants. Ashton Holmes' character was the kind of guy I was always attracted to when I was that age because anything they do, offer, and express is straight from the heart; it's real and it's sincere. Guys like that are worth their weight in gold and have more to offer another in the areas that really count. If I had been Emily Blunt's character, I would have fallen hard for him regardless of his circumstances. Circumstances can change, but genuinely nice guys are harder to come by, especially those who aren't afraid to be romantic. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was the ending. They should have been given a chance to be together.

But only if he's attractive, right?

I completely agree! I thought he was sweet and charming and made quite a few mistakes in trying to impress this girl. But in the end he did get to know her and she him.
Only wish he hadn't died.?

I agree. Unfortunately it took an accident for her to find out just what a loving and caring person he was. Something she only completely realized in the final minutes of his life. Even as a ghost he showed his warm heart by leading her to safety. There's no real bright side in this story, but I am glad he saw his dream beginning to come true before dying. Very sad.
