In 1944, you'd never survive. Even now your chances wouldn't be so hot.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

No your chances would not be good even today. Even worse back then, but to say he cannot and could not survive is rather stupid on your part because men HAVE survived burns like that and worse, even back then.
Not many. But not impossible either.

I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!

Watch the plane crash again ... there is no way he would survive that period. Especially hen you consider he was pooled in gas!

That scene like much of this film was absurd!
