OMG ppl is the only reason you have a problem w/ Green Day b/c they are labeled as "punk" and to you they aren't at all punk. Green Day has said that to be the best band in the world you can't just stick the playing the same thing and they don't write their songs for you they write them for themselves. They have said that punk will always be with them but they haven't labeled themselves as punk their Gilman street fans and the general public did and after American Idiot came out and it wasn't like their other music they were called sell-outs. You don't like Green Day well don't listen to them and go post comments on the boards of a band you do and get over yourselves.

look i love very much the music, and Green Day are one of my favorites bands, in my opinion it's one of the best bands of the 90's, and it's very good bad. Look i'm don't agree whit your comment on said that Green Day are bad band, but i'm agree whit said that you can't be ''punk'' if just listen this grup, if you like this bad you for been called ''punk'' listen also to Ramones, Sex Pistols, but until Green Day are very sold-out, still be the best band of the neopunk, becuase the rest sucks and that it's very easy to said, Simple Plan it's a *beep* also Good Charlotte, also Sum 41, that 3 bands are really the *beep* you discribes not Green Day

First, off it's Green Day, Not Greenday. Real rock what is this real rock you speak of,Isn't it existent don't you hear then GASP it must be real. lol...all im saying here is that green day go around pretending to be something that they are clearly not, and rich suburbanite teenagers gobble up the idea that they are "punk" and start to dress the way that green day do, just in order to conform to what was ORIGINALLY (and still is IMO) a non conformists genre of music.

What gets to me is that alot of the original punks are still around and dress and act the way punk was intended, as an anti-establishment underground movement, not a big label grammy award winning band that poseurs love to cling to and say liek omgz im sooo punk, billy is liek soooo hawt. ok so you get the idea i dont like the music, fine i can cope with it on my radio, but DO NOT label yourself something that you are not...ie PUNK

Now i am a metallica nut, and these statistics mean SQUAT to me. it is a terrible album with terrible music, and i refuse to ever call any songs on it good music. my point is that just because it recieves awards from an institution as retarded as the grammys...does not make it a good representation of music. the album is so widely accepted because of Green Days clever way of marketing to the youth, they buy it like hot cakes. the older music of Green Day i can listen to and not have that feeling like "oh, i like this music because of the band name"

I completely agree.

What I DID say, is that it is a matter of opinion.

I find American Idiot the 2nd best album they have done, the first, of course, being Dookie.

And I astill cannot cll myself a hardcore Green Day fan when I do not own 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours or Kerplunk!.

I do, however, own every other one.

(I am not a fanboy, well, at least I don't consider myself to be one)

Myself, I don't like Green Day's new image. The makeup and tight pants really do not attract me.

I do love American Idiot. Mainly the songs you don't hear on the radio, like Give Me Novicane, St. Jimmy, Homecoming, She's a Rebel.

Boulevard of repeated-so-much-on-the-radio-i-want-to-punch-emo-kids-in-the-face is highly annoying.

I cannot bring myself to enjoy this band, though perhaps others do, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I must agree with the likes of kamikaze (I agreed with some stuff you said on a Metallica board here and found you to be a voice of reason).

Anyway, I would just like to state that Green Day is not punk, before you flip out no I am not "THEY SUCK SO MUCH LOL!!!" I'm just saying that they are not punk in the sense that Sex Pistols, DK or Misfits are. Punk had a message, not one I really agree with but a message none the less. Now you may say that Green Day can solidify their punk style with something like American Idiot that speaks out against our current establishment. I'm sorry but no.

If you start labeling everybody that speaks out against Bush to be punk, while then why not Michael Moore or some Hollywood celebrities? Why not Howard Dean or John Kerry, are they punk for this? No this going against Bush really isn't the type of message that is needed for punk.

Let's play a game here, tell me what Green Days message is and if it is a reasonable answer I will admit defeat. Until then please stop labeling them as punk, it angers me equally when "Hair Metal" is used. Tell me how a hair band can be considered Metal, compare anyone of these to a REAL metal band and all you get is a ridiculous comparison.

Ok, you see the thing is i would say that 90% off todays music is absolute and utter crap. I cant stand most of it. There are about five recent bands i like, and no im not an old fart im under 21. So that makes little difference to me. For example Ashlee simpson. i think she is the worst artist in this era and yet she took two awards at the 2006 austrialian music awards. So, come up with something better than statistics and awards. And i also agree with you kamikaze i hated St anger. There is not one good song on it, even though Metallica are one of my favourite bands ill always not like that album. The thing about music these days is that little teeny boppers (most of them) just listen to whats considered to be "hot" at the moment, they dont look for anything else, theyll just get whats ranked high on the charts, which is the number one reason for the state of todays music industry.

(metallica pun not intended) :P

True true, the likes of lee harding also come to mind. his perfomance and the veronicas perfomance at the AVMA06 were absolutely terrible. I was actually quite shocked. i mean, i thought they were bad but not as bad as they were live. it was quite disgusting. Those bands in definintion are not actually emo...they are bands that MTV and the likes have labelled "emo" so that kids like you fall into the trap and buy the cds because they are targeting a market that is filled with angst and "issues", and by labelling a genre "emo" instantly suggests to a teenager "oh this music talks about what im (supposedly) going through, they cant string more than three chords together, but hey they manage to represent some of my frustrations and enable me to become "anti fashion"...when clearly i am merely a sheep in a large flock of fringes and melodramatics.

Real emo died years ago...

Bands like Rites of Spring and Sunny day Estate are from the 80s/90s and are true emo, the scene officially died probably in about 97 maybe?.

Oh and i also want to add that i love metallcia, led zep etc...i also actually like SOME modern pop punk stuff...or what you classify as "emo"

k, let me just clear this up for myself,
so
1. Someone has just come onto a Green Day board and posted something about them that they know will rile up the fans....(seeking attention, much?)

2. Does grammar really make a band good or not?

3.Would they like it if I went onto a board of their favourite (in some cases) band and slagged them off for not being 'real music'?

4.i mean what is real rock? Does it actually have to be above 80% granite based, is there some kind of bar-chart that i can compare the stylings of Green Day against? And if so, could you please e-mail it to me?

5. Are these people so short sighted not to recognise that people have different tastes in music and that, therefore they have no right to accuse other people of listening to the wrong music. Just to make an example, i don't have any respect for bands such as slipknot, only as it is not my kind of music, this doesnt mean that i can call it a crime against peoples ears, an ugly mark on the face of the music industry and 'not real rock'

6.I admit, it is wrong that Green Day market themselves off as a punk band, if they were, no one from over 20 miles of Berkley would recognise names such as 'Mike Dirnt', 'Tre Cool' or 'Billie Joe Armstrong'. Because that is against 'punk' morals as such. But how are we to recognise what is punk and what is not, society is becoming much freer which is leading to anyone saying what they want, so to be honest. Punk does not exist any more...as it used to. Punk, in my opinion has been redefined completely, and people do not recognise this.

and finally,
to those who it concerns,
Do you not think that, if Green Day were as bad as you make them out to be, that there would not be a response from this many people, contesting what you are spouting off??...Think about it, and if your argument is that you are trying to 'enlighten' them to your tastes in music, would you really want theses 'lowlifes' and 'scumsuckers' as i have experienced them being called, coming to your gigs, taking your tickets, making you lose out on your experiences?
think about it....

Its pretty ignorant your self to suggest that i am some messed up loser with no friends. And im just doing this to help past the time. Im playing tennis in an hour and going out with friends later so suck it! I started this thread because i felt the need to vent of some steam, i had no idea it would go for this long or anyone would reply. I was fed up with the charts and the state of the music industry. I find it funny how people pay you out for posting something on IMDb and say your a loser for doing it when infact you are replying too me, so does that not make you even more of a loser? Think about that one for a while. Not to mention you saying people are gay which just shows how intellegent you are as it is the lowest form of paying someone out especially since you dont know me at all. Just to clerify though i am not gay i infact find it wierd. I just cant understand why people would do that, doesnt make sense to me.

No to you this might be true but to alot of people it's not everyone is intitled to an oppinion but seriously lsevenl why would you post a message that would clearly anger alot of people, did you want to get yelled at by multiple people over a silly little thing that could of been prevented what were you trying to do start world war 3 on the internet should we start to think before we post a message i think so plus they are a great band they have so many supporters and they are one of the best live bands ever and they are truly a wonderful band whos music deserves to atleast be appreciated you might not like them but you can still appreciate how happy Green Day makes sooo many people i still appreciate the music that bands and singers and rappers make even though i may not like the songs or people It is time to grow up and mature okay

Thanks Hiwhosyamate. But if you look at the message of mine it shows *beep*s so it kinda looks silly haha. I think that if anybody would disrespect Green Day or anybody on IMDb, It should be banned. Everyone has a right to their opinion yes that's true, but i think that if not positive, it should not be banned. A friend of mine went to a movie profile a while ago and read negative reviews even though the movie got a high rating, and he didn't wanna watch the movie anymore. So people shouldn't talk negative on sites. Just an opinion. only few movies or bands deserve to be bashed. Anyways, Green Day RULES!

Bloodlusterforlife,
the fact that you like good charlotte and simple plan doesn't help your case. 14 is young, hell I'm young, I'm only 17, I know I have a lot of growing up to do but arguing with people about your maturity level doesn't help so just drop it because they are going to continue to tell you that you are a teeny bopper.

Also the fact that Simple Plan is a bunch of like 30 year olds complaining about school and their parents and their sucky life that they don't have, and Pierre whatever, has the worst voice ever.

Hey, you guys can like them if you want. I dont really care what you do, I was just simply saying that i dont, because i think they are boring and all their material is the same not too mention that anyone whos 35 and wears the crap they do has some issues, they need to grow up and move on.
