Lacked Magic.

I watched Song of the sea and I'm still crying. What a wonderful, emotional movie. I can't believe the disney movie won over this at the academy awards. That been said, I remembered Secret of Kells which was made by the same team. This movie is even more magically visually but it lacks passion and heart. It doesn't know what it wants to represent. Magic, Earth, Old religions and beliefs or christianity. I understand it is based on some myth about the first bible of the middle ages or smt but it didn't fell right. Religion shouldn't be in cartoons. It lacks magic and kids need magic (adults too!)

I prefer Song of the Sea as well, but The Secret of Kells knows what it's doing. It's about the Book of Kells, which is a real thing. In fact, several of the locations in the movie are real places too - according to Wikipedia, anyway. However, personally I think Song of the Sea is better - it doesn't infuse religion (imo nothing wrong with religion in films tho, as long as the filmmakers know what they're doing), there's indeed a lot more heart and passion, and it's clear that they've learned a thing or two from The Secret of Kells and made their next movie better :)

Well those are two contradicting statements. Religion can very magical.

I disagree about the lack of heart. I found this movie very moving with genuine heartfelt moments from various characters.

Can't stop the signal.
