Why copy the cheesy style of Lynch to try and scare? I kept being taken out of this movie by the cheesy directing style and acting too much to enjoy it, which is a shame Thora is good in it, and the horror scenes aren't bad.
It's just the overall cheesy Lynch style and horrible support acting along with terrible dialogue.

Although being a film student helps one to appreciate David Lynch's work...it's not necessary.

I think the OP needs to get a better understanding of what "cheesy" is.
I love a movie where, as the end credits roll, I want to watch it over again. This film actually makes you think...and some people just don't have that capacity. They prefer thoughtless drivel where everything is spelled out for them.

Finally, someone who gets it. Sad how many people just dont 'get' this film And This isn't the old clicheyou don't like it, you don't get it. In this case its true.
This is one of the most underrated horror films ever.
It had many similar elements to Lost Highway... but cheesy... and Lynch... in the same sentence?? Come on now!
Just sayin'...
It also had elements of Mulholand Drive with the parallel words. It also had elements of Inland Empire with the distorted faces. Rip off, but watchable.
