Their Logic Regarding The Gate??

Ok, so this movie is (as we already know) pretty inconsistent and has huge plot holes.. So my question is, why was it necessary at all for them to come back to "our" world in order to destroy the gate? Also, was it even necessary for Alfonz to create a gate on his side in the 1st place considering the nazis had previously successfully sent a squad of soldiers over to their world earlier in the movie? Not only is that puzzling me, but why not just transmute the plane into a HUGE bomb and send it back effectively destroying the gate and/or anyone who had knowledge of how to use it? Why does Ed always have the worst logic when it comes to these things? And why does he never think things through before trying to be an unnecessary hero? I mean jeez..

Here's the answer...

the nazis had previously successfully sent a squad of soldiers over to their world earlier in the movie?

Al wouldn't know where and when the next gate would open. Opening the Gate would put it where and when he wanted it.

Considering how the plane returned to the real world, then if that plane was set to explode, then the people around that area- the Gypsy girl, Nazi Hughes- would have been killed.

Besides, that would screw Hughes' redemption, so I'm clearly against that idea...

you forget. they only were able to do that because Honheim(or how ever you spell it) created the transmutation circles(magical circles to them)

as well as they had access to the great serpent(ENVY)

with out him the would never had succeeded as he was one of the requirements to open the gate
