Just saw this on Toonami last week. Terrible disappointment
So, when I first saw the original Full Metal Alchemist TV series, I thought it was incredible. Possibly one of the greatest anime series I've seen. I never saw the movie, though. Then when Brotherhood came out I thought it was okay as a fighting anime, but certainly couldn't hold a candle to the original series. Then, last week Toonami aired the Full Metal Alchemist movie. I finally saw the resolution to the original series. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I was so looking forward to what happened to Wrath, Gluttony, Envy, and Lyra. Yet, Wrath, Gluttony, and Envy only made small cameos and Lyra wasn't even in it. I guess we can assume she was eaten by Gluttony? If so, they should have shown that in the TV series instead of making us wonder what happened to her. Instead, this movie focused on a bland new villain that I don't give a damn about. I think I've changed my opinion on the original anime series being better than Brotherhood for the simple reason that Brotherhood has an ending. I can't really consider Conqueror of Shamballa to be the proper ending to the original anime as it's just too awful.
