Please someone explains... (spoilers)

I've just watched this movie again, and once again, I fail to figure when and how Al managed to sneak back inside a plane darting straight to the Gate, from his frail and falling piece of wing (how do they even make a safe landing on this?). Unless he set up beforehand some alchemical teleportation pod inside the suit (that would be a first), and even so it would have been one hell of forethinking...

I'm actually much less bothered by the Elric bros leaving Amestris for ever (though I really feel sorry for Winry), than by this lousy "hello! got on board at the last minute!" trick.

The distance between wing and ship doesn't look too big a gap. I could assume Al (maybe with Roy's help) climbed the top part of the wing and made a big leap and grabbed on. I believe there was a little time skip between Edward vanishing inside the hole and the rockets powering up (he doesn't have full control of the ship like Eckhart did, so he had to take over by manual or Alchemaic means), long enough for Al- unable to get inside the ship (perhaps Ed sealed the hole?)- to climb into the armor grafted on the wall OR made the armor himself (he is an Elric, after all). I don't think of any teleportation pod; the Gate allowed both brothers to pass worlds safely (theories abound: immunity from successfully escaping the Gate, the lack of a counterpart, the Equivalent exchange that both were giving up their home world, etc.).

I do wonder how Roy handled things. Although I believe he survived, the landing must have given him some injuries.

Big leap, indeed! (In a Single Bound as they say on TV Tropes)
I'll still go with the Plothole/No Sh** Given hypothesis, but thanks for your input.
