Any straight people who like this?

I'm a straight male and I came across this on showtime on demand a few nights ago. I heard about this cartoon before, but never saw it. I watched it and thought it was funny, but some of the references went over my head. I think you'd have to be part of the gay community to get some of the references they make. Besides that, I still laughed during a lot of the movie.

Another thing I thought was good is how it shows that gays have a sense of humor about stereotypes against them, since this movie is full of stereotypes, but in a humorous way.

Just wondering if there are any other straight people who liked this movie.

I'm also a straight male and thought it was funny.......(insert joke here.)

I thought it was rather corny. I'll admit though that the horse made me laugh during the no-mo ho-mo segment

It was a little bit corny at times. Some of the songs are funny, but I'm not that big on musical numbers in any movie, so I thought there was a few too many in this one. I kind of agreed with the horse when he said "what is it with you people and musical numbers." But it was funny when the horse was saying all that stuff during his part of the song. The baseball song was funny, partly because I lived in New England for a couple of years, where baseball is pretty much their religion.

Even though there are a lot of in jokes I didn't get, there are some funny jokes that most people can understand, like when Queer duck told the horse that for a straight person he ties really good knots.

I'm straight and I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a funny movie.

reply

Agreed. One of the funnier/funniest movies I have EVER seen. I don't know if it would make my top ten (and it actually might), but it would be close.

(Rough quote)

Peckery: "Sir, if I may say, you've been through quite a bit. You won atrouny(?), but you lost your true love. You've been married, widowed, gay, straight, gay again, dirt poor, and filthy rich."

QD: "Yeah, it's been a busy weekend".

Reverend: "Fine, put me in prison! Just get me away from all this GAy SEx!

Police: "Uhh..yeah"

Just pure funny.

I'm a straight female and I love, love, LOVE this movie! I did grow up around gay people and have a lot of gay friends now, so that might be part of it. I think my parents, over 60 and also straight, would love it as well. I actually tried to buy it at Blockbuster for my Father for Fathers' Day, but it was only available there as a rental...perhaps I can find it online at Amazon or something.

reply

Yeah, they have it on Amazon. It's probably still on Showtime on Demand if you or your parents have that.

I haven't seen the entire film but earlier this year I was at a speaking engagement by Mike Reiss (writer of the film), where he showed several clips from "Queer Duck." The majority of his presentation was about his work on "The Simpsons" so the crowd seemed to react more favorably to those, perhaps because "The Simpsons" is so familiar and "Queer Duck" was not. What little I saw of it (there was a musical number about "Baseball Is Gay," I believe, and another clip I can't remember) looked pretty funny, though I wasn't crazy about the primitive animation.
