VARIETY gives Thumbs Up!

they're usually pretty hard on most films so this is very cool. i will attempt to post the review but if not there's cut and paste.

my favorite part of the review: A PUNJABI PYGMALION," director Lorraine Senna's "Americanizing Shelley" is a sweet-natured, often charming twist on the assimilation comedy, the Ugly Ducking story, even "Cyrano de Bergerac"...

"PUNJABI PYGMALION"...an american reviewer actually understands the different parts of the indian culture and knows about punjab. india has become a major force internationally and stuff like this proves it.

"yeah, ofcourse i'm right"

indians are definitely making their mark. india will be a mjor superpower in less than ten years.

cool review although i dont think there are enough makeover stories.

spideychick,
this is a makeover film for sure but dont forget that it also has heart and is a very sweet film. dont discount the values that come with it such as "its okay to be who you are" and the fact that shelly didnt give up her values just to get americanized. i thought that the fact that she goes back to her culture was one of the most endearing parts about this film.

nestin...i never suggested that the film is a "makeover" film and doesn't have a heart. infact, i thought it had some very, very sweet moments between rob and shelly especially toward the end and also when they were falling in love...i actually LOVE the entire film.

i just happen to like the "makeover" angle more than anything else because i am the BIGGEST fan in the world of "before and after' type stuff. thats just more appealing to me than anything else but it doesnt mean that i don't appreciate the other parts of a movie.

"jenny from the block~for real"

for me the best part of this film is the comedy aspects. it doesnt matter about "makeovers" or heartfelt moments if a comedy is not funny. and ofcourse the highlight of the film is namrata singh gujral.
