Did anyone else find this movie offensive?

Is it just me, or is the movie totally offensive to Indian culture? As much as it tries to show how good Americans really are and how the Indians misconceive them, it presents a very narrow-minded view of the Indian culture.

i am of Indian descent and no, i didn't find this film offensive. neither did the 20 odd others i know (all indian or of indian descent) who have seen it. the jokes seemed to target all ethnicities incl white, indian and black, so what's the problem? i don't see any other ethnicity whining on this board (and this includes other similar films too). can we (or some of us, anyway) please stop being hyper-sensitive and not take ourslves or a comedy film too seriously. i should hope that as an ethnic group we are more secure in ourselves and can laugh at ourselves once in a while.

besides, in the end the family accepts the white lead for who is and shelly does not give up her values in the pursuit of hollywood (which i felt was trying to forcibly place indians on a high moral ground and not necessary). i think all of that makes indians look accepting of others and willing to give other cultures a shot.

i'm not kidding but i actually read something on the bend it like beckam board, where, an indian was offended that jess (parminder) kissed the white lead in the end and ended up with a white guy. i suppose you can find faults with anything, if you go looking.

I'm actually not Indian. Was just wondering :)

and now you know.

will everyone love this film? probably not. but everyone doesn't love any film. this film has its limitations like any other movie. "being insulting to an any ethnic group" is not one of them.

will some think so? its a comedy that plays on all cultures: so yes.

will 99% out there watch it, laugh and move on without being scarred for life: i'd say yes.

CAUTION: if you have a thin skin reg political correctness, do not watch this film.

I kind of wondered myself about the offensive part. Because she was fine the way she was in the beginning. As she found out in the end she was better off without the person she was supposed to marry.

I am not Indian, but I do know an Indian who says that marrying out her culture is unacceptable.

My parents who are immigrants feel the same way too. So I can't knock it.

I just sort of wondered about the "looking and acting American is better" stuff was the offensive part.
