Puffball Novel

Should be an interesting movie. There are elements in the novel
tailor made for Nicholas Roeg`s style of film making.
While not a horror novel, there are sinister passages that reminds
one of Don`t Look Now.
The way nature and the landscape play an important role. (Walkabout)
Parts of Bad Timing, Track 29, and The Man Who Fell To Earth, also came to
mind while reading.

I found this review of the book from The New York Times (with spoilers): http://www.nytimes.com/books/98/10/25/specials/weldon-puffball.html?_r =1&oref=slogin
and this page for the book at Amazon.com with one review which indicates that it was somewhat humorous: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0007109245/ref=cm_cr_dp_orig_subj

I can see from reading the Times review that it could be kind of a comedy of errors type book, but with a white magic twist. Is that what it is like? The movie seemed like more of a B movie trying not to be or an A movie that just couldn't help the B movie moments.

Did the book give a clue to how to interpret the end of the movie? The very end were the girl is looking knowingly at the camera like she has a secret.
