What does the ending mean??

Okay, so there's this ominous shot of Audrey looking up at the camera from beneath her eyelashes.

You see, in the puffball mushroom, a house on fire.

...I don't get it. What does this mean?

Is Audrey not as innocent as she seems? Is the baby safe and normal?

reply

Hi, I'm not actually too sure what that means, but my idea is that, as Audrey looks at the shoes, then looks up at the camera, I think it looks like she wants to tell a story. That there's a story behind the shoes. That probably sounds weird or even stupid, but I think some people will have different opinions of it, and thats my opinion.

I hope that helps.

reply

Hmm...so like, there's more than what the movie showed us?

That's an interesting theory...

reply

Well no, everything that happened in the film told a story. But that was just my opinion of why Audrey did that.
I mean other people will have different views on that but as I said that's my opinion.

You've obviously seen the film, did you like? Would you recommend it to people to watch?

reply

I would only recommend it to people who are patient and into more psychological films or films with stories that are somewhat left open in the end and up to interpretation.

It was a good film, just...I wasn't incredibly impressed with the delivery. The beginning was a tad too slow and I got a little tired of the constant sex scenes. I know they were relevant to the plot, but after awhile, I was just like, "Yes, it's clear they are going to have sex. Do you have to go through the entire act on camera again? Can we get back to the film and the suspense I'm supposed to be feeling?"

What did you think of it?

reply

I think its a weird film, I know this may sound a little cliché, it's not like any other film. But I think thats what makes it good, is thats its interesting. When I first saw it, I thought what the hell was all that about?, but when you see it a second or third time, you understand it more.Yes there's a lot of sex in it, but I think that adds to it. Its not a film for the faint-hearted, infact, when my friend and I saw it in London, she actually had to cover her eyes on some of the scenes, because she thought it was a little scary. There's also a few gorey scenes in it, but overall I think its a good film. And I liked it. And I know others wont and don't agree with me. Thats their choice.

I too want too know why Audrey was looking so sinister and full of secrets at the end. It almost felt like she orchastrated the whole thing and she had powers and a understanding that her Mam and Grand Mam didn't. Did she harbor much hatred towards her mother becauseher mother probably resented her for not being a boy? Is that why she helped the family? ARGHHHH!!! Anyone??

reply

Leona is totally correct, there is a whole new story in Audrey's eyes, just a hint of the extent of this sea of stories which we inhabit.

reply

What does this mean?

What did the whole film mean? Such nonsense!

reply

It's possible that the twins came to be born and one soul went to Mabs and one soul went to Liffey.

reply

Hm, that's interesting. It's been awhile since I saw the movie. I suppose the ending is let up to the viewer...I suppose it can go a few ways.

reply

the old woman's soul went into the baby.

The baby might be as safe and normal as it is possible for any human to be. But she is the inheritor of this story. It affects her place and meaning in the universe, and her youthful nubility, her very ability to create new life, almost guarantees Molly or her mother's jealousy. This is the great hatred at the heart of womankind, and why we men need to offer them a shelter and harbour from the ill will of their fellow females. Come on guys, otherwise they'll all end up as anorexic and we'll have nothing to hold on to, or rest our weary heads on...
