Has anyone done anything like this in real life (or do you know someone)

Just wondered if any had married someone shortly after meeting them, or if anyone knows someone who has?

reply

Not married buuuttt......

The weekend after I split up with complete creep, I was out clubbing with girlfriends, when I declared to my friend "I'm gonna kiss the next bloke that walks past me" (classy, I know, lol!!)
So a guy walks past and uses the line "God you're beautiful" (How cheesey?!) So I grabbed his collar, and kissed him....

5 years later we're living together and have 2 beautiful sons!

That's the nicest story! I love stories like that!

*knocks on door* I know you're in there, I can hear you caring!

reply

You should NOT live in sin. That is not romantic to have bastard children.

^^^^^^^^

Is that sarcasm? If so, very nice considering the majority of americans under age 25 can now say that mommy and daddy where not married when they got knocked up.

If not, consider playing in traffic. It would mean a lot to me.

my cousin married this woman he just met right after three days. No proposal. He brought a priest inside the girl's house and right on the spot (the girl was still wearing her pajamas), they got married.

My father worked in the same company as my mother for a few months but after their first date on a Friday, she moved in on Saturday and he proposed the next Friday.

He swears he would have asked the previous Saturday but had to wait on getting the ring he wanted for her sized to her finger...and he had to find out her finger size without her knowing.

28 years and they are still together and do everything together that they can.

Didn't Danny Bonaduce marry his wife on their first date and he didn't even remember getting married he was so drunk? She wouldn't sleep with him because she was waiting for marriage, so he up and married her or something like that...
They were married for many many years and had kids and the whole shebang until that reality show of theirs went schizophrenic.

My friend's parents met when her mom went on a trip to Egypt and met her dad, who lived there, and they spent, I think, 3 days together, and they knew they wanted to be together some more, but she had to leave and he couldn't come to America unless they were married, so they got married. Still married, actually. Sometimes I think the 50% of marriages end in divorce statistic has less to do with people being suited to eachother and more to do with people being suited to marriage. Some people just are and some aren't.

I didn't do it personally.
But!!! When I was in the Army, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting some 18-20 year old idiot from Arkansas who'd just married a girl he'd known for a week or two.

Uh, you have heard of Vegas haven't you? It happens quite often there though those marriages tend to be alcohol-fueled romances that don't last.

Seriously though, this probably happens a lot more often than we realize. As was mentioned in the movie, in some cultures it happens to this day. Throughout history it was usually the norm even among royalty and that may still be true in many cultures today.

Just recently (2014) I saw something on NightLine (ABC) about the Moonies having yet another mass wedding. This group, the Unification church under the late Reverand Sun Myung Moon, is known for these mass weddings. There are thousands of couples wed in one ceremony; many of which have only just met or met specifically for the purpose of marrying each other.

Apparently, they do these mass wedding every year (I keep hearing about them)and are now into the next generation of marriages (children of earlier couples now getting married). What's amazing is these couples come together sometimes from different countries, backgrounds, and cultures and can barely speak to each other yet they meet and marry in the same day and often stay together.

I guess this means marriage really is more about commitment than anything else. Love helps but we can probably learn to love anyone. Staying in anything for a long time (marriage, job, project, etc.) takes commitment. These days people seem to value 'falling in love' over commitment. Once those initial feelings wane they're ready to move on in search of it again. Those types tend to lose interest in the person they're with and are likely to cheat and/or move on.
