is this some rip off of spy kids? or is it actually origional?

It's nothing like it - they just gave it a bad title. Basically the (normal, not spy-like) boy uncovers a sinister kidnapping plot at his school...it's been a while since I saw both this and spy kids, but they were pretty different. "Spy Kids" focussed more on gadgets and stuff. This film is mostly about how the boy lies all the time so when he discovers the plot, nobody believes him because he's cried wolf before.
