Real people?

Were Joe Hartsock, Matt Baker, Garnett, Leggett, etc. etc. real people? If not, they do a good job of making you think so. Or maybe I'm gullible.

reply

Unfortunately their not real people, but the missions and characters are BASED on true missions and people.

reply

wrong, lots of them are real, including, garnett, desola, legget, cole, and desola are all real people.

reply

if theyre wrong, prove it

reply

Can you prove that they are? I mean, you could maybe find their names in some old book, or that of a veteran, but come on. There are millions of Smiths in the world. What's the difference? It's just like saying Private Caparzo was real. (SPR) Ryan's character was indeed real, but they used another name for the sake of fiction.

reply

It is possible to find out if theyre real, the previous poster didnt even say that the characters were real (to say that the personality instead of the actual name) he actually just gave names and said theyre real, and if they are then I was wondering what his proof was, if anything I'm also curious to see if the characters were real names and people and if given proof that they were, Id end up liking the video game more!
search for an actual soldier, you can do that (at least in canada) you can search for the name(through the government, veterans affairs in canada), from the name, you narrow it down to the unit, if theres still more than oneguy in the same unit, you go by platoon, section etc.
sometimes they do choose to use the actual names (ie: band of brothers, Zulu, a Bridge too far)

reply

sorry, I put a lot of wrong names on there, I know this through the gearbox extras on brothers in arms earned in blood, these are the right ones:
Private Allen
Priavte Garnett
PFC Legget
Lt Col Cole
Private Muzza

Matt Baker was based off of Harrison C. Summers, shown in the first BiA in the mission "Objective XYZ", which Summers became famous for. Basically, he took a group of buildings labeled "XYZ" on a map which turned out to be a German barracks with over 100 people in it, he was credited with at least 30 kills.

Cole is the only other person I know that is real.

reply

In the extras you can see a letter writen by Muzza to his wife before he set off and a letter from Garnett's mother to Allen's mother. Also Cole even has a page on wikipedia, also in that same letter, Garnett's mother mentions that they died saving a friend named Legget, who unfortunatley died a few days later.
You have beaten the game right?
If so just look through the extras

reply

Wasn't it around 50 kills between Summers and another guy? It's on the Ubisoft website, I think.

reply

yeah they have a whole video about the XYZ thing

reply

Technically the characters portrayed in the game with the exception of Cole and two other Colonels, plus SLA Marshall are ficticious, however you can say that the game is based off on true historical accounts and that the characters are real (Albeit that there might have not been a Paige or Hartsock, Desola or Garnett) The game is based off real 101st Airborne soldier's who did the same exact things as people in the game. So it's fair to say that some if not most are real people maybe not with the same names or same home towns but the stories and spirits.

reply

Garnett and Allen are both compleltey real, they have letters from their mothers!

reply

And PFC Legget is mentioned in those letters

reply

In Objective XYZ, there were real people. Baker was based on Staff Sergeant Summers, and Corporal Hartsock was based on Private John Camin, who helped Summers clear out XYZ.

Mac and Legget were based on one Captain and one 2nd Lieutenant w/ a radio (correct me if I'm wrong, look at the AAR of "Objective XYZ" in the RtH30 game extras). Who arrived just as Baker and Hartsock were about to clear the barn. Allen and Garnett (who were using a bazooka) were based on 2 Privates trying to do the same thing Allen and Garnett did.

That's as far as I can remember. I have EiB installed right now, and I had to uninstall RtH30. So correct me if I'm wrong please..

These should be the fictional characters and the true guys:

Sgt Baker- SSgt Summers
Cpl Hartsock- Pvt Camin
SSgt Hassay- SSgt Nickrent
Cpl Corrion- Pvt Rogers
Pvts Zanovich, Obrieski, McCreary, Courtland and others- Pvts Davis, Partham, Petit, Kokorugga, Foglia and Wells. (These are the names of the guys who fought with Summers, but we cannot give them an exact game character)

Combs, Legget, Allen, Garnett, Muzza, Ltcl Cole are totally true with names and all.

My name is self-provocatory. Inverse psychology. I'm Italian but not a fascist.

reply

Pvt McCreary was an actual person. He was in Easy Company 506th PIR and is mentioned briefly in the book Band of Brothers.
