I was so disappointed

concur

reply

I thought it was OK but it could have been a lot better.

reply

It has a lot of humour, social and personal.
Did you notice it?

reply

I agree. I couldn't watch past 15 minutes into it.

reply

Too bad: it gets great at 16'!

reply

i agree! what a waste of my time.

reply

agreed. really didn't do the book justice

reply

Disagree. The film was wonderful. Each to their own I guess.

reply

It's underrated.

reply

I agree - some of the acting left a lot to be desired but what I really thought was strange - that they used a young and older version of the main actor and only one actress as the female lead - anyone else think the same?

reply

I was a bit disappointed myself. The book is so eloguent and lyrical, I think I expected the style to be more in that vein, but then, how do you really adapt Gabo into film?

But, I do think, honestly, that Wong Kar-Wai would've made something more true to the feeling of the book. He probably would've changed a bunch of things, and it would've taken years to film, but the spirit would be there.

Which would we rather have? Something more faithful to the plot, or to the feeling? Apparently too much to ask for both, as that definitely did not occur with this film.

Well at least you have a constructive opinion, compared to the ones before you who disagree or agree on a negative one (what a perspective!).
One can WONDER who they are and WHO ennobled them to the rank of judge or critic, based of course on the famous deeds of their lives.

reply

Agreed, it was a total bore fest - I don't know how I managed to watch it all.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Loved it.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

I loved this movie! Everything about it was amazing. . .the acting by all, the direction, cinematography, location, costumes, etc. Everything!!! I don't understand why people didn't like it. I was totally mesmerized from beginning to end. One of the best love stories!

I loved the book & I love Javier. the book is much better so i'd recommend reading it. If you haven't seen The Sea Inside, i'd recommend that too since Javier does a magnificent job in that one as well. Both are true stories. I also enjoyed Goya's Ghosts. His last few are so-so but not because of his acting, probably due to the directors & storylines.
