Shows one way to obtain 'justice'

First let me state that this movie tackles a very disturbing theme - that of rape, and the way in which victims are sometimes treated by the justice system. Angelina didn't have a prayer for justice, not when people are willing to lie in order to keep themselves safe. But even without Eddie's betrayal, she still faced an uphill battle. The defense team was brutal in their treatment of her, in effect, victimizing her a second time.

I will also say that there are several rape scenes in this movie, and they are difficult to watch. This movie shows rape for what it is - a horrible, disturbing assault that's all about power over the victim. The scenes are disturbing, to say the least. Know that, going in.

I felt the story had a few flaws - some unrealistic portions. Most notably I did not believe that a shower would wash away ALL trace evidence. No bruising, no cuts, no sperm survived the shower? I find that hard to believe. But of course, we needed a lack of evidence in order the story to hold together.

Still, One Way definitely held my interest.

I am not a female, but I can imagine how Angelina had suffered, she tried hard to wash everything so disgusting in and out of her body, wanting to let go of any substance of male violence physically, trying to get rid of any form of bad ones. So it is possible the remaining of the crime is gone. The point of this film is to let us know there is no evidence to convict the raper but her own assertion, and it is still possible. Otherwise, every raper would be sentenced in court, but the truth is not, even in such advanced society with hi-tech settlement to investigate crime scenes.

Just like I won't argue why there is no CCTV or camcorder around the corners of every street in N.Y. City, the key is how to get justice under such circumstance, one way, or the other, and what is justice. I felt justice for all characters, Eddie, Angelina, even Judy. Anthony is not to be killed but when justice is the issue, somebody got to pay for it.

While this movie was not good, it did raise some interesting questions. Now, what I am about to say is in NO WAY an attempt to trivialize rape at all. Rape is horrific, to say the very least. This movie was not the first one I have seen where a woman is raped, the justice system fails her, and so she is left with no choice but to exact revenge. Prior to seeing this movie, I had seen adult film called Terri's Revenge! where a woman who was raped takes violent revenge on her rapist by raping him back. As brutal as Angelina's (revenge) rape of Anthony was, it's hard to say that it was equal to what he had done to her. First, because he had raped her longer, and second, he never had to live with the trauma of it like she did, because she shot and killed him immediately after.

In the aforementioned adult film, Terri's Revenge!, the main character's revenge on her rapist was far worse. She raped and abused him SO much worse than what he had done to her. Now, that is NOT to say that it was okay for him to have raped her in the first place. It raises the question, did he deserve what he got? The audience will say yes every time. Well, there are a few things to consider. When the law can't/won't help a female rape victim, is her only recourse at that point to rape her rapist? Is there simply no other way to get justice? Okay, assume that the answer to that question is yes.

So, she gets justice by doing back to her rapist what he did to her, but far worse. Making sure that he suffered worse than she did. Making sure he lives with the emotional scarring that she has to live with. The argument could be made that she had the right to decide the punishment. But really, where is that written? And again, I reiterate, rape is NEVER okay. Because, clearly, just as rape is illegal, so to is rape done in revenge. Consider this as well. A woman who was raped can get her revenge. And her revenge on her rapist can be so much worse than what she had to endure. But, at the end of the day, what has happened? Did it undo what had been done to her? And, truth be told, the rapist is not likely to stop just because he got given back what he gave in the first place. If anything, she simply fed the monster. She may have made her rapist even more deranged, and in fact, there is a good chance that perhaps he even enjoyed her raping him. I know that that sounds insane, but think about it. If a rapist is given a choice of going to prison where they will likely be raped by some 400 pound bull or getting raped with a sex toy by a woman, I BELIEVE the rapist will choose the latter.
