So, can anyone explain the ending? (major spoilers)

The henchmen are about to shoot the (anti)hero, but then the princess herself defends him and falls to the ground bleeding. They let the hero go, the princes dies(?) and some voodoo priest or something with a shiny sign of a cross on his back with bunch of (dead?) naked women holding him, claims that some trail (test) has begun? And then the hero meets some guy who smells blood on him and they part ways as the guy says "for now"...

Can anyone explain any of this? Why did they suddenly let the hero go? Because the princess asked them to? Why did the princess fall bleeding? Did she die? From what? Who was the voodoo priest? Why does he have naked woman on around his neck? Are the women dead? Why are his eyes glowing? Why does he have the cross and what does that represent? Who is the guy who the hero meets on the street at the end?

Or to sum it all up, this whole film was just a set up for a sequel, an OVA or a series that never happened, wasn't it?
